Used to be my #2 fave prog metal band for years. Kind of drifted away from them after "A Pleasant Shade of Gray" in 1997. I have some tunes from "Disconnected" and "X", but none of them grabbed me. I did buy some bargain bin live DVD of theirs last year (from Wacken several years ago maybe?). But wasn't impressed enough to ever put it back in the DVD player a second time.

Listening to "Parallels" today and wondering what they're up to these days. I could just google it and sift through a bunch of various official info, as well as blog postings, etc. But honestly, I generally prefer to get the quick & dirty forum scoop on such matters and then decide if it's worth looking further into or not.

I think they are touring and getting ready to record again. They played ProgpowerUSA last year, with Ray Alder, Frank Aresti, Jim Mateos, Bobby Jarzombek (sp?) and Joey Vera. Was a great show.. I am not a huge fan of teh last 2-3 releases though to be honest
They (minus Ray) also just did a project with John Artch.

Whoah! No kiddin. John Arch is still around? Crazy. I was always more of a Ray Alder guy, but I first got into them during the Arch years and still dig that stuff a lot. Especially "Awaken the Guardian". Also loved Zonder and Zimmerman's drumming over the years. Never heard of this Bobby Jarzombek.

Arch/Matheos just came out, It is pretty good if you like John Arch, he sounds the same as he did 25 years ago. A few years ago there was a John Arch EP with Matheos called "A Twist of Fate". There are a bunch of video interviews about this project on You Tube if you are interested.

Ray has been busy with Redemption, they have a new album "This Mortal Coil" coming out OCT 11. Here is one from "Snowfall on Judgement Day"

I saw an interview with Jim and he was saying there will be a new Fates Warning album in 2012. He has done 3 albums with OSI also, with Kevin Moore (original Dream Theater Keyboardist). The second clip has Steven Wilson on vocals from Porcupine Tree.

FW has been pretty active, they have definitely been around. They actually did a few shows with Zonder last year where they played Parallels (I think, maybe it was Perfect Symmetry) in its entirety.

The John Arch disc "Twist of Fate" is with Jim Matheos and Mike Portnoy and is very good. Only 2 songs but they are super long, natch. ;)

Arch/Matheos just came out on Tuesday this week and is very good. Really heavy guitar sound from Jim, much heavier tone than he uses in Fates.

new REDEMPTION will smoke! Their first one kills.

I have always been more of an Alder fan, too. You cannot beat the twin guitars of Matheos and Aresti, they are perfect together. Great band, but not a fan of much after Parallels and Perfect Symmetry

I'm in the minority, but I preferred post-Arch Fates, but "A Twist of Fate" is fantastic.

I love Alder era Fates Warning. I also happen to have dug "X" very much so. It's a regular rotation disc for me.

If you wanna see Alder again, Redemption will be at ProgpowerUSA in Atlanta in Sept 2012

Saw redemption with Dream Theater a few years ago. They were excellent. Alder claimed he was fighting a sore throat. I couldn't tell.

I really enjoyed Parallels too. One of my favorite albums from high school.

Fates Warning. That brings back memories. Awaken the Guardian and No Exit cassettes were constantly playing in my first car. Got to open up for them in durning the Perfect Symmetry tour. Cool band.

picture if you can, awaken the guardian with better production. that is what the new cd sounds like, fantasic

Dude... I love apsog! I also love the song something from nothing...

Fave fates song has to be ivory gate

AGREED! Finally picked it up over last weekend and have been thoroughly enjoying it ever since! Highly recommended. Like good old 80s Fates Warning, but heavier and more kickass!

Yeah man. I've always wondered what Arch would've done on the 4th FW album, No Exit. I think it would've been incredible.
