There was a recto verb combo for 500 at gc

I never really liked the open back speaker on them. I had one a long time ago. Was gonna try to close it off somehow but ended up selling it.
 
I have a recto verb combo and love it. Great tone and power in that amp. Solid buy
 
I have a Rectoverb combo. $500 was a good deal. They usually sell for $600-700.
 
Sweet what should I expect from the black shadow in there are they similar to the vintage 30?
 
Got my Rectoverb head at GC for $490 so yep - I'd say that's a good buy. Not a combo fan but you still a great deal. What tubes are in there exactly? Try some EL34s too - good times.
 
Yeah I'm pretty excited I hope it's in good condition. That's a big draw for me with mesa is the tubes don't need biased so when it comes if it has el34 or 6l6 I'm going to get the opposite matched pair. Eventually if it's a solid amp I'm going to get a 1 or 2x12 cab
 
The Black shadow is similar to the classic lead
It has more bass and a bit more top end than the v30
No near as much mids, but it's not scooped like a t75
It has a fat and balanced voicing
Great speaker for small cabs and combos

A little update I have the amp it's in good condition just missing some knobs it has JJ power tubes in it do they sell fixed bias pairs like mesa does? Or did someone bias the amp?
 
Most tube vendors will sell you a pair of any brand tubes in the right range for a Mesa if you ask them too.
 
Ok so I played the amp all night last night and it's the best 500 I've spent. Now it's day I was looking closer at the back panel and there is no El34 6l6 switch on the panel. Can you not switch it to an El34 mode?
 
I would email Mesa Boogie.


I didn't know there were any Rectoverbs that would not have the switch. ???
 
You mentioned a black shadow speaker...you sure you didn't buy a rectoverb 25 combo? If so it's el84 only as far as the power section goes.

The 25 should have a Filmore speaker.
 
It's the single watt 50 for sure 2 6l6 power tubes and I think 6 preamp tubes. Not to mention guitarcenter has all Mesa products priced very high lately those 25 watters all go for 1000 combo wise and 7 to 900 for the 25 watt head.

You probably have the series I rectoverb.
Series II have the ability to use 6l6/el34 along with the raw mode added on the 2nd ch.
They are great amps, congrats!
