that guitar looks badass

i have a carvin 7 string and i think it rocks in terms of construction and playability.

aside from a pickup change, the only thing that i dont like is that i think that the floyds that they equip their guitars are pretty flimsey, definitely need to upgrade to a real floyd.

Why does this have a Floyd bridge and no locking nut?

Good catch! Wow didn't notice that, it looks like when you spec out a guitar the locking nut is an "option" no clue why anyone would get a Floyd without a locking nut

For all I know its a hardtail!

If it's a free floating bridge what difference does it make to have one vs not having a locking nut? I would think having it locked would provide better tuning stability?

i want a carvin so bad >< guitar looks tasty.. just tasty

I wonder since everyone swaps out the pickups themselves anyways, is it possible to just send them pickups to put in there instead? There a reason why most people don't like Carvin PUPS or do they just suck in comparison to what else is available after-market

You can get away without having the locking nut on a Floyd if: A.) you have locking tuners and B.) aren't going overboard on the bar use. Generally, the Carvins without locking nuts have locking tuners.

You can't send or request other pickups.

IMHO there's not much wrong with the Carvin pickups. They're warm, thick, and balanced. Not a bad pickup at all. In fact the singles are great, one of my faves. The humbuckers could use a little more grind, they're almost too smooth, and an acquired taste.

I had a DC127C with a Floyd and no locking nut. It has locking tuners and a graphite nut. It stays in tune just fine.

Ya, I've never understood why the locking nut is an option with a Floyd. If you buy a Floyd, the locking nut is included. As far as pickups go, I doubt they would install different pickups for you but it's worth a try. If not, maybe just ship you one with no pickups. They're pickups are not that bad, but I go into every guitar purchase expecting to replace the pickups. I have a TL60 that I absolutely love. Smokes every PRS I've tried imho.

I was on they're website about a month ago and saw a few lookers, seems like they are
catching up with newer guitar company's,as far as updating the look of them.
However i'd like to see body binding on this model.
But it does look killer.

That thing looks awesome. I don't get the Floyd with no locking nut either.

scott

I don't understand everybody's hang up about the locking nut. Floyds and Kahlers are the only trems that offer locking nuts. Every other trem on the planet comes without one. Wilkinson, Fender, Bigsby, PRS, etc don't use them. If you have locking tuners and a graphite nut, and everything is set up correctly, it shouldn't be a real problem.
