Think I might've finally found my 7 string (Suhr content)...

Suhr says this is a "Museum Quality" roasted birdseye maple neck/fretboard. Sounds like you should eat it, not play it... :lol: :LOL:

So, yeah...... I've been to a lot of museums and never once have I stumbled into a birdseye maple collection. I wonder why they call it that?

Nice. I didn't know he was doing 7's. Nice neck on that too. 'A lot better than the cookie cutter Ibanez I have.
 
I was wondering when someone was going to grab that. I like Suhr guitars (have 3) but I think the "museum grade" label is kind of PRS style snobbery/cheesy ...

Thanks for posting this I've been thinking about making mine a 7 string. I was afraid that the headstock would look huge but it not,it looks good. :rock:

I don't usually care for Birdseye, but that looks really nice....congrat's Steve :thumbsup:
 
Would be growing a rubbery one if it weren't for the FR... Otherwise, killer.

I had words with Suhr about birdseye, they said they felt it wasn't as stable as other forms of maple. So be it...I guess in these cases, trust in the truss.

The only reason I think they did it in birdseye is because this neck is roasted and that supposedly makes them very stable. Here is how they describe it:

"This instrument incorporates Suhr's new roasted maple neck. It is heat-treated in an oxygen-free kiln, a process that removes all the moisture from the wood. This is the same process used on the vulcanized maple necks they had been offering, only these are heat-treated at a much lower temperature. The end result is an extremely stable and incredibly smooth feeling neck, with a lighter color then the vulcanized maple. This particular neck is exceptional, it has lots of birds eye figuring going on from headstock to heel."
