BTW, a buddy and I came up with a perfect death metal band name, and a perfect punk band name.

Since death metal names always have something to do with going #2 or bloody body parts or some lame shit like that, I came up with "Weeping Urethra" So fucking metal!

And for a trashy sounding punk band, "Courtesy Flush"

"Weeping Urethra" would go great with my Death Metal Album "Troth of Urine"

I have seriously had the title "Trough of Urine" as an album for a joke Death Metal band for like 5 years Weeping Urethra is a perfect band name.

I've jammed with so many cats and their groups over the years - either as an add-on or with mixed members of different groups... We never cared about the name, but if anyone ever asked, we ALWAYS went with something funny.

A little while ago, the name that came to be that is STILL talked about to this day was:

Mutant Tampon Arrest Society

Put that one in yer pipe and smoke it - hahahahaha....

I just love the NON-serious side of music... I've said it before and I'll say it again - I cannot STAND the "serious musician face" in any and all of the magazines and eZines and shit...just makes me howl. Like, people, lighten up, it's music - don't take yourself so seriously.

I guess that's what years of Zappa influence has done to me

The name will come to you when it's right, and when it isn't, it won't. Keep writing, and keep working. Hide the shit you write from yourself, start over, and then get the old shit back out and look at it a month later. You'll find something that not only sounds great, but actually MEANS something to you, which is what matters, IMO.

No, not at all. I've been thinking along similar lines with riffs and lyrics. Part of me would rather have a name that's not personal because bands come and go kinda like girlfriends. I'll probably ending up naming a band after a place that's special to me, I can think of a few right now.

lately I've been getting song ideas, thinking they're cool at the time, then going off them quickly, then being stuck somewhere else and finding that the old song idea or an alteration of it fits well. Same with lyrics.

As for names, I'm just gonna stick with a temporary name, not like we'll have a fan base big enough to care by the time we think of one.
