Thinking of Ditching My Kemper For a Torpedo Reload

The only reason I have a Kemper is for recording directly. I can't mic an amp in my current home. What I'd like to hear from are guys who have experience with both the Kemper/AxeFx devices and also taking a line out from an amp to say, a Torpedo Reload or maybe, the Suhr Reactive Load into the Torpedo CAB pedal. You get the idea.

I currently have a Mark V:25 and am thinking about picking up a Friedman PT20. If I get the PT20, I'll probably get a Reload or SRL/CAB combo I mentioned. I've never recorded an amp that way and I'm a little concerned I won't be happy with the feel or recorded tone. Can't really go try this stuff out before you buy so I figured I'd ask.

I know there was a long discussion here that Pete Thorn was involved in regarding best way to record line signals with IRs etc. but it didn't compare that to the Kempers, etc.

Thanks in advance guys.
Dave

Friedman is releasing a cab emulation/DI box called Mic No More which he announced at NAMM. I think he mentioned $169-ish or something like that. I'm patiently waiting for it's release for quiet home recording like you.

Thread on it here -> viewtopic.php?f=57&t=176776

I know at least one guy who ditched the 2 Notes Live for the Suhr because he was getting similar results. If Freidman releases something for that cheap that sounds interesting.

The Friedman is not a load box its just DI/Emulator hence the big price difference from a Two Notes or the Suhr RL

Yup. Same as the Aiken Gold Brick.
I used my Gold Brick at a gig a few weeks ago to FOH and it sounded great.

Hey Dave. I had the Torpedo Live and the Suhr Reactive Load. If I had to choose between the two I would grab the Reactive Load again. I wasn't super happy with the Live. I just couldn't get it to sound right. About everything sounded the same. TBH, the Suhr is a great unit but I could see myself going down the "which IRs are best" rabbit hole. I'm sure some of it is user error on my part. Reza gets great results and tones out of the Torpedo stuff. The Kemper is just so easy for home recording. My recordings sound so much better with the KPA. I think I like my results of mic'ing up a cab best. That being said I would be interested in trying out the Friedman box.

I love the Torpedo Live. Does a lot for what I need and it sounds great. I use a lot of their optional cabs and they really do make a huge difference when recording.

I finally tried the Suhr reactive unit and it was great as well. Didn't hear that I was missing anything. If that was all I was using it for would be at home into my DAW, then it would be a great economical solution for me but I need it for live work as well, so I'd rather have everything in one box for that. I'm actually considering upgrading to the Torpedo Studio in the next couple of months.
