I've slaughtered another big PA head
This time it's a Carlsbro PA 100, with four EL34 and Partridge transformers.
This is a really HUGE amp!
As always I will clean it from the old parts and fit in some new circuits!
Unfortunately the mains transformer was burnt on this one but I was able to find a original Partridge transformer from another Carlsbro PA 100.
The back panel got some new holes:
Here is a pic from the process, the boards are installed and the power supply is in place:
And here we have the finished amp:
Bias trim pots on the back panel along with test point jacks for easy and fast bias adjustment:
Here is a layout pic for the front panel:
The amp is designed for down tuned metal but it's very versatile with it's three independent channels. You can really shape the sound using the controls on each channel. The amp has a gain boost that kicks in another gain stage that can be assigned to any of the three channels. It has a tube buffered effects loop, a power amp mute function and two master volumes, all these functions along with the three channels and the gain boost are assignable from the front panel, via footswitch and via MIDI. The power amp section has some tone shaping features as well; a presence, a punch and a bass boost-control, all with their own three way switch for different frequency responses. So you can set up this amp to sound the way you want with any guitar and any cab.
And here are some clips:
Hope you still like this amp cheftie!
