Lance said on TGP that it will be under $1K. If that's true, I'll pick one up for sure. I love that type of tone, and it's one of the few tones that I can't really get at the moment.
Doesn't the $1K area seem a bit much? hmm..

For mass production assembly line s/s amps yes, but for low number production runs it's probably about right.

Fragile harmonics can't survive in the crystal lattice, I can't explain it any simpler than that.

He said under $1k. If we were talking about a tube amp that sounded like that the price would be well over $2k. We'll have to see where they price it. It is funny; however, that people don't have an issue with dropping large money on Diezel or Bogner or Friedman amps, but heaven forbid that a great sounding ss amp come along and cost more than $300. I'm not trying to flame you, but some times I wonder how people justify gear price points...?

The difference, IMO, is the parts involved; the most expensive of which are the PT and OT on a tube amp.
I've heard that the pair of DeYoung trannies that go into an SLO cost Soldano over $500...and that's the cost to the manufacturer...that's before a retailer gets their 50%.

In a solid state amp, you don't need nearly the mass of iron because A) there's no OT and B) the PT can be much smaller because the voltages don't need to be nearly as high. Also, because of the significantly higher voltages, you need better/more filter caps (at around $10 each). On top of that, you have to buy tube sockets, which can be $5 each for good ceramic ones (and a high-gainer will need at least 8...a VH4S has 13)...and each of these costs gets multiplied on down the line. Op amps are cheap. A single 20W MOSFET will set you, the consumer, back $1.99.

Yes, but you're paying for a circuit design in either case. Are there $4k worth of parts in a VH4? I'm not saying that high end tube amps should cost you money. They cost what the market will bare. With that said, this amp will do the same.

And let's not forget that we are willing to spend out the nose for high end pedals... which don't cost very much to build. You are again paying for the design. Just MHO...

I will wait for someone to buy it then put it up in the classifieds so I can snag it at a great price.

Sounds great and I need something I can use at low volume to practice.

Regardless of cost that amp sounds outstanding, proof is in the vid. I have heard more expensive tube amps sound worse.

Sounds absolutely AMAZING to me! I am gonna watch for this one closely!

Kudos for focusing on tone and functionality instead of overloading it with cheezoid built in half asses effects

Amp sounded great!
To me thats really what its about.
I dont care if its tube or SS.
Headless deadguy Brang over his SS Ampeg this weekend for the amp fest and it was SMOKING HOT!!
Everyone there was rocking out on it and it sounded kick ass!
*Side note....gassing for that amp now....thanks MIKE!! :gethim:   **
But for the most part the Tube amps sound better to me.
Just sounding good and fitting in for what you want to use it for as really all that matters.

ive had a few guys plug into my ampeg not knowing its SS, love it then be shocked to find out it has no tubes. one dude almost seemed bummed out like he was offended he played a SS amp and liked it or something.

I don't care what it's got inside, the VH140c I heard on Saturday sounded fucking incredible.

Sweet sounding amp.

Here's hoping "under 1K" doesn't mean $999...

The real test for me would be to see how it sounds and feels boosted. I've heard great SS amps, but the feel just wasn't there. This thing sounds pretty badass though.
