Oh yes, wicked smooth. He's incredible, but I'd have to say his master is a true master..

Great player, very smooth.

...but I can't help but think that he's one of "those" dudes that, after hearing someone play a great solo, would attempt to tarnish it by saying: "he had some pull-offs in there, so that's not real legato." :D

bg is awesome and at the time this video was shot it looks like garsed was owning.
But these recent videos of legato shecky seems to say he's been really working at it.

but yeah the garsed video definitely made Brett out to be the dominant improvisational navigator whilst fingers o'toole was kinda trying to string shawn lane licks together with awkward notes when he ran into brick walls.

Good player.....speaking in tongues though to me?

My thoughts exactly...

I wonder what qualifies as "good" playing in that guys book?

Ditto, He sounds great and can play flipping circles around me...

But he's kinda a butt-head, the "metal (not any good)" legato he does isn't any smoother than the lick right after it that is supposed to be "good". Sure the phrasing is different...

I wouldn't necessarily give a rat's ass except that he mouths his opinion so firmly about what is "good". Sorry for the rant, but I taught for a long time and I can't stand teachers/players who have the "right" way and anything else is inferior, bad or wrong. Fuck that, find your own damn way!

Some guys should just play something cool and shut up :)

That said, I'll shut up and play nothing cool

"It's fast, but it's not good." There's just something fundamentally wrong with "artists" who don't understand subjectivity.

Why do I think this guy really really likes math. My response to his arrogant lesson would be to GFYS and bend the strings poindexter.

fixed

he plays with so much distortion the guitar ought to play itself. i dont like either of those guys style. buy em a piano

his action looks like its literally right on the fretboard, talk about low!!!

i understand what the guy is saying and my take is this--

he is skilled enough to have the right to rip on petrucci's technique if he feels compelled to do so.

doesn't make it politically nice or right, but i hear what he's saying about just being able to play fast while sacrificing tone for speed sake, or not adhering to the "rules" of legato technique.
and i get the distinct impression he doesn't care about the majority of people that will be turned off by him.
i'm not offended by his viewpoint at all and would love lessons from this guy!

it's the same thing an advanced classical pianist or violinist faces when they don't stick to the very strict rules of the game. they get ripped on by their instructors to the point of anger and humiliation. but if they survive they eventually enter a performance level the majority of players here would never ever reach. perfection.

I don't play classical music, perfection isn't my goal...

I'd rather listen to the Heartbraker solo than this guy...
