Back in Black has some incredible vocals. The problem is, BJ has never been able to sing that way live ever.

To me, that is ACDC's best album and it's not even close. And I love the old stuff.

i get it, i'm largely alone in my disdain for johnson....bon was just way too authentic and raw

and the energy of the bon scott era for me is unmatched, even with back in black. putting the vocals aside its slower and less raucous in some weird way for my taste

Back in Black was mostly written prior to Johnson joining the band.

The best albums are Bon Scott albums for sure. In my opinion.

oh i know, and i've listened to a lot of the AI stuff with his voice singing those songs because not a whole lot would bring me greater joy than to have had him sing on it

i dont even keep the post scott albums on my phone anymore. everytime they come on, i just skip forward anyways lol

Same thing happened to me with KISS in 1979 except the dude handed it to my dad. I thought he was gonna toss it or start a scene. Surprisingly he just grabbed it and handed it to the dude on the other side of me and my brother.

Considering the shoes he had to fill I'd say hard core Bon fans were guaranteed to be disappointed to some extent. You aren't alone, but Brian was a pretty good choice IMO and he has stayed with them the whole way, which also says something to me.
