Great alternative to rack mounted switching systems for those with pedalboards they want to have on the floor instead of mounted in a rack.

Anyone ever used one? Looks awesome to me.

I'm looking for something like this, small, looks durable. Except I know crap about switchers

I was looking into one of those but they were way to expensive IMHO. I decided to go another route but if I do decide to revisit that, Im gouing with this instead for about less then half the price (not sure what the current price is nowdays but at the time I checked these could be had for less then half!!)

Those Musicom controllers are sick, but sooo expensive..Kage and I had a good chat on the phone about them awhile back. I'd love to have one.

Unfortunately, its less than half the feature too bro.... You know how much I love Rocktron and Im a little perplexed that Rocktron hasnt done anything to compete with the Musicomlab or the Providence PEC-2(OP, Check that unit out, its pretty friggin slick, http://www.providence.jp/providence_e/pec_2/pec_2b.html )

Rocktron could easily make a unit like this and sell it in the 500 range which would put it in the hands of alot of people

Other companies to check out are GigRig and GLab but I prefer the providence though Ill probably get the Musicomlab for its size)

Ive seen videos of them on you tube and used in some professionaly built pedal boards. Jamey Ice of Green River Ordanence uses one and in his rig tours he goes over how much he likes it. Seems like a legit and well built system if you prefer your pedals on your board. Just reeeealy expensive.

Its a bit more coin than most are willing to spend but if you think of it in terms of ease of use and practicality as well the fact that you can essentially have most of the benefits of a rack on a pedalboard without having to lug around a rack, it makes sense to me at least. For something like this, I dont mind the initial outlay because I know that in the end, it truly pays off...

I checked out that unit but was really leery of the cheapo plastic jacks that are used, especially considering the cost.
I went with the Rocktron unit, I am assembling the pedal board now. I drew it out in CAD and cut it out last week.
I picked the Rocktron because the hardware is good quality and they use the better metal jacks.
It weighs a ton. The channels are individual and not internally bussed together.
So you have eight channels that you can patch together in any order you wish, giving you the ability to organize the button-ology in the most convenient manner.
You can also use any channel to operate amp relays.
My use will be in the manual mode, just to turn pedals off and on, I will also use it as an amp switcher. Not at all concerned about the MIDI bells and whistles, so this unit seems to be a very good fit for what I need.
I will follow-up with pics and reports on how it functions. The Rocktron replaces a VooDoo Lab Pedal Switcher.

Total understand what you are saying and of course you are correct, but for what I do, The rocktron is plenty lol.

I've got one and thinking of selling it since I don't use but one to two pedals anymore.

RJM is a FANTASTIC company!!

So this thing is meant to be mounted on a large pedalboard, then the pedals themselves are mounted behind the unit ? This way, any effects in the loop would need long cables running to and from the amp.

correct.

The downfall is of course the cable run but the upswing is that it's great for people who want to midi up their pedals with an ez switching system, who dont want to get into rack processor processing and want EZ access to the pedals at a gig instead of using something like the GCX switching system where the pedals are usually hidden in a rack drawer.

It's just another tool in the arsenal!!

Got the pedalboard done with the Rocktron Patchmate Floor switcher. No problems through three shows this weekend. Playing tonight through Wed, then on the road the next two weekends. Will update with pics, got them on the cell phone but with the new Verizon account haven't figured out how to transfer them yet.
