This Van Halen song is just cool af

Yeah that was the only song I liked off the album. It's great. Reminds me of when Dave and VH actually pushed the boundaries a little bit it was great. Specifically:

The greatest tragedy is they did the 2 new songs (Can't get this stuff no more and Me Wise Magic) and were sounding fresh and amazing and then they kicked Dave again and squandered it. What could have been?

I agree . But man the last album kicked so much ass

I’ll have to give it another listen. There was one specific thing that I couldn’t deal with that I notice with a lot of new albums. Don’t know if it is digital reasons or just the way they record these days, but the vocals always sound WAY too close. Like there is no distance or depth or warmth or whatever.

It's a great record IMO. The groove on Stay Frosty is one of the best examples of that patented and impossible to duplicate Van Halen SWING, and they did that while sounding HEAVY AF AT THE SAME TIME. And Ed's playing on that tune is nucking futs and bucking frilliant.

"Use my hand. I won't look." LMAO That's classic Dave.

That whole album was amazing

ADKOT rips. The only tune that pissed me off was Tattoo, because they butchered "Down in Flames", which is a kickass tune and they neutered it. Then they kicked off the album with that tune. WTAF? Oh, well. Rest in peace, Ed. You are sorely missed.

They used the intro of Down in Flames to kick off You're No Good, which opened Van Halen II.

Ya the productions are not the same at all

This should have been a GIANT hit

Totall sounds like 1984 imo . Or written then that is

I ended up loving this album ..... there's some sick playing on it .. and Dave is being Dave ..... doesn't get much better .

I have a take which I'm sure will be unpopular on RT but, I think Eddie used too much gain on ADKOT. :dunno:

I want to get a Steinberg with TransTrem just so I play this song and Get Up as King Edward did (all strings stay same pitch as the trem dives or climbs).

i liked it out of the gate. the songs are like old school vh with a modern production twist and dave trying to navigate his less agile voice.

something about the higher gain hair on the gtr tone is kinda too much fizz for what i associate with the quintessential vh sound, but eddie played great!

You can understand why Ed didn't want to exactly recreate the past. He had already been there.

And I must wonder how much hearing loss he had from decades of bigtime rock n' roll? He may have gravitated toward more fizz so he could hear what sounded like lively, electrified tone.

💯
EVH could choose to play metal zone through a pignose and he would always be eddie.

but i can definitely say i did not enjoy the post 5150 years much. Finish what you started and cabo wabo seemed like Sammy trying to turn the band into a Jimmy Buffet retirement house band for his club, and we won’t get into the cherone years.

so yeah metal tone aside AKOT was a breath of fresh VH air indeed!

I thought I was alone on this....ADKOT is currently my favorite VH release. Not only because it is great, but I am burned out on all the other stuff at this point.
Wolf and Eddie really gel well on this disc

Oh my god that first song is cringe as hell, it sounds like a bunch of garage uncles on acid locked in a studio and forced to write "metal" 😂

I swear some of you guys only like this stuff because of who plays it, and you don't even listen to the actual music
