This VH4 looks killer

FourT6and2"} You run the Marshall and VH4 together? I need to do that with mine. Still trying to figure out how to best go about doing it. Details on the Marshall? Is it just a stock 1959? I said:

What I found out is you run ALL the bass on the Diezel. Just tweak the settings close to what the video of Adam's tech has his Marshall set on then adjust from there. Cabs and speakers are crucial for Jones Tonez, The older oversized Mesa 4x12 cab is a must.

I am kind of side tracked on a Thrash metal project right now which is not utilizing any of these two amps but I was going to post some video of the Jones Tonez in late January or February. I also need to get a older Mesa 4x12 oversize cabinet, all I have is a bunch of Marshalls with V30s.

Edited to add is you run the oversize cab with the VH4, since its running most of the bass. Regular cabs are too small/directional it wont really get you to Jones Tonez nirvana.

Buy yourself a Lehle P-Split. It is unpowered, un-buffered. Has a ground lift, great isolation and a phase reverse to get your amps in phase. If you don't have any master on the Metro, you should put one of the Metro kits on it so you can at least get the amp to break up a bit. Everything dimed, but the volumes and bass. Adam uses no bass on the Marshall, with the presence, treble and mids dimed. The bulk of your tone will come from the VH4 though. 412 with V30's for the VH4 and GB's for the Marshall. All your FX need to run up front - wah, delay and flange in that order.

I always thought he ran the traditionally-sized Mesa cab, not the oversized.

From the photos and videos I've seen, he doesn't dime everything on the Marshall. Presence: 11:00. Bass: off, Mids: dimed, Treble: 11:00, Volume I: 11:00, Volume II: 1:00. In any event, my amp isn't going to EQ the same as every other Marshall out there simply because it's not a Marshall. I built the thing. It has a slightly different circuit and different transformers. And yeah, I have a Lar/Mar PPIMV.

Like EXPcusom, my 1959 is built to what Dave said as well. Only I put the 0.0022 V1b coupling cap back in and lowered the bright cap to 250, down from 500. I usually jump the channels and run the EQ close to what I listed above (which I got from the Dunlop video with Adam's tech). Only I run Volume I at 2:30 and Volume II at 12:00. Just sounds better with my setup. This thing has a lot of bass.

And I think the majority of his sound comes from the Marshall, not the VH4. This has been argued to death, though. My only response is listen to any of the vids/clips out there when he was running just his Marshall (the JC Dobs vids, for example) and you'll hear how crucial that amp is. The VH4 just adds low-end and gain for the modern-voiced stuff on Lateralus and 10,000 Days. A VH4, alone will get you close, but the right Marshall by itself still nails his sound (I think). But, whatever :) it's all good. It's nice to have either one, let alone both!

And yeah, I have G12M's in my Bogner cab. Although, I'm thinking of trying G12-65's or getting 65 watt Greenbacks from Scumback Speakers because I don't think the 25 watters will hold up very long. This thing is super loud, even with the PPIMV turned down to noon.

Also, Peter S posted that when he played through Adam's rig a lot of his sound came from the type of microphones he used and that the amps were creating a big phase shift... ;) And he was using 6L6's in the VH4.
 
Unless I am missing something Adam has been using the Straight/Slant recto cabs which are considered "oversize" unlike the Stilletto cabs? :confused:

They make both the oversized and traditional in either straight or slanted. Not just the oversized...

They do now but back when he started using them they just had the large Recto but like I said I am not 100% sure.

Hey Steve_K can you tell if Adam is running the oversize cabs?
 
These are the old standard cabs. I guess they call them Stiletto cabs today. I can say from my experience that a VH4 sounds like absolute ass through a Recto cab.

recto standard cabs are the "oversized" cabs nowadays. The recto traditional is now the stilleto cab.
