They're even better in person. You can't feel the brutal percussion in a YouTube video. The Wizard experience to me is how much air they move. I have a 16' MC ii and just picked up a 16' MTL. Two of the best amps money can buy.

I can only second that. I lovey MC2.

As I also think about adding a MTL, what's your opinion? What's the differences and are they different enough to have both?

Is the master better on these now or are they still brutally loud?

Master works very well. But they can be brutally loud :D Actually I play them louder than most other amps, because it so much fun. But you don't have too. Still a 100W amp and not a 5W bedroom amp of course ;)

This one always blew me away .... this amp was for sale a while back.

That particular amp currently sits next to my MTL ;)

Great amps! But, be prepared for 2 things.

1. NO compression WHATSOEVER. I don't like compressed amps, like the older BE 100s. But it turns out I like SOME compression. Wizards are the most open uncompressed amps made. IMO.

2. No Marshall mids, at least on the MTL. I had a MTL 50 and the mids are good but if you like Marshall mids they are a little different. Maybe the MCII is more Marshall-like?

Great amps, and like a 2C+ they have a unique feel IMO.

the thing that is amazing to me about wizards is its soooooooo articulate no matter the gain - string/note separation is just crazy...and that lack of compression mentioned above just gives the amp a certain clarion singing quality.

i think this is why some that dont like it find it fatiguing/piercing/brash etc

I don't know if I've ever seen a bad Wizard video, never played one live, but has to be pretty damn awesome to play.

I love how my MCII recorded but in front of it I felt a little disconnected. It seemed like the extended high end wasn't part of the core note. Then in a band mix I couldn't hear myself. I could hear the extended highs and lows but the mid core wasn't there. But I think it was psycho acoustic is that the word? I want to give another try though especially the mtl. They are so expensive so unless they do what I want easily then it's not worth keeping.

THIS.

Didn't record with mine but the mids are even MORE different on a MTL, at least in my experience.
But your last point is EXACTLY why I sold mine. I can't keep more than one REALLY spendy amp...so if it isn't perfect for me, I can't justify keep it.

Don't get me wrong, they sound incredible and are soo clear and articulate. The mids weren't for me though.

its funny how different we all are - ive never had an amp that i felt so immediately connected to in terms of feel and the slund being produced (if anything, there are times i wish there was a little bit of disconnect which a lot of times takes the form of sag or compression for me - ive got to be so 'on' with a wizard).

i also felt like all the marshall type grind in the mids that im used to is there in razor sharp spades in my MC II...i agree with others who say its sort of like a marshall/hiwatt mix but, for me, part of the marshall is the mids the MC has vs the feel and highs that are a bit different than marshall to me.

Yeah my MC"s all have Marshall based midrange and slightly extended bass and treble.. its what angus used live so.. not sure whats going on with the MTL but I dont play that style of music anyway.

Angus has great ears and tone so does Wolf Hoffman I always loved his (Wolfs) tone also Stephans tone on various Accept albums so cool!!

I find if you mod these amps to taste they sound a lot better.

I wasn't a big fan of the mids of the MCII either so back it went. I also agree about the ear fatigue. And the loop ain't the greatest either.

so this has me curios.. how many wizard owners out there are having problems with the mids? this is something new, Ive never heard this criticism before... I know there are a lot of pro players using them now, I wonder if they are complaining... Rick might want to know about it?

I think the the high and low are so extended that it tricks the ear into not hearing the mids where you want them even if they are there. How many wizard users here actually play out live? I had the best luck when it was really cranked and I pulled the loop volume down but still the mids weren't where I was comfortable. Also if your a singer it felt like there was no frequency hole for the vocals to fit or perhaps my vocal style. But like I said it recorded really well. And I love the Darkness and AC/DC live tone.
