Thomas Nordegg updating Steve Vai's AxeFX II with my laptop

Kind of a cool little story from Thursday. I got to hang out with Dave Weiner Thursday and we were troubleshooting an issue he was having with his rig. We decided to update his AxeFX to v8 to see if it solved the problem. Thomas was around and asked if I'd update Steve's too. Sure!

Did I read somewhere that whenever the Axe is updated that it clears out all of your settings? Maybe I am making that up but I thought that was a main complaint with Axe users.

On a side note, I met Dave in Cleveland a couple weeks ago walking down the street to CVS. Cool dude.

That's what I thought. I can't imagine that would be the case. Maybe I just read that some updates created the need to tweak a setting or two.

There ya go that can be the case with certain updates like updating to 8.0. I'm suprised he would do that before a show, but I think he only uses the AXE for effects anyways.
 
Ironically we did have to revert Dave's after sound check, it was having a weird expression pedal issue. Vai's was fine. :) And yes, I can confirm, firmware updates do NOT touch patches at all, which is why sometimes when he changes the amp sim models you have to go into your patches and reset the amp to take advantage of the new features.
