Those new Metaltronix amps.... preorder $4.5K

I loved the Ampeg VL series. I must have gotten lucky as I had like 4 or 5 of those heads and they all worked fine/no fire.
I would get into a new Metaltronix if I could get one at half that price. Sucks because I am his target audience in terms of age/income/past history happiness but it's not really on my radar as it is way steep.

It looks cool at least. I'm sure it's killer but yeah no amp is worth that price

But good.

Same as the Ampeg heads he did. They were OK, not great.

They were decent if they weren't catching on fire.

Yep
I had one actually do that (I had 2) so we kept a fire extinguisher handy just for the occasion.
I had trouble with both of them and went back to Boogie MK III's

haha, yeah I grew up in STL about 5 minutes from SLM Electronics...so at some point I have had almost every Crate/Ampeg amp that has existed. There are hidden treasures in that lineup (Stealth, some of the VC series). But man, I don't know what was going on with build quality sometimes. I owned 4 VL series amps at one time or another (hard to pass up $150 Made in USA tube heads) and each one melted down in some form. Like you said, they weren't bad sounding when running though.

$4500? :hys: :hys: :hys: I’ve got $4600 into my Monomyth Marshall, KSR Ares, Mesa Mark IV, and Peavey XXXII. These builders are out of their fucking minds. :loco:

Well thanks to amp builders such as Friedman etc. The prices are skyrocketing like hell.

As someone I can’t recall on Rigtalk so wisely put it, “I’m glad somebody pays these new prices, so I can buy them used for much less.”

I had an original Metaltronix and the only reason it sounded good was because I stuffed a Friedman modded jcm 800 chassis into it. I had two different Metaltronix heads and they were too loud to be usable. His second master that was supposed to let you get good tones at low levels sounded like compressed puke. His Lee Jackson series amps were better.

Ya that thing was unplayable loud. Went from 1 to 10 in a crack of the knob.

I had one back in the day. It was LOUD. I didn’t have anything to compare to at the time, it was actually my first amp beyond a cheap Gorilla combo amp. It just came up on my local used market and grabbed one because of Zakk Wylde thinking it would be cool and unique since everyone was still using Marshalls.
Don’t remember much about the tone, I remember it had a ton of knobs and hard to dial in.

I bought one of those Ampeg heads brand spanking new. Lasted about a month before it melted down.

Man Im hoping to have a similar stable as you. That Mark IV earlier got snatched up pretty quick. Oh well Im probably going into conserve mode until we get out of lockdown.

I definitely dont get the high prices these days. We had it good with Peavey. They were pumping out US made amps that were pretty awesome and most were built like tanks. Hell I think the VTM was actually made from a tank. And they came in around a grand all day.

Im really thankful for some of the brands we still have like KSR, Revv, and even Mesa where you get a lot for your money. Hell even though a Splawn doesnt have all the bells and whistles as some of the companies I listed they still come in right at the 2k mark. Somebody somewhere said I can get 4000 off the hair metal guys for a basic modded Marshall and everyone followed suit.

Yeah, that Mark IV was posted two, three days ago, and then it was gone. Then came up again yesterday, and gone again. Maybe a buyer backed out or something. It’d probably be a good idea to hold out anyway, with the economic uncertainty and all. Besides, people will probably be giving shit away in a month or two, sad to say....So, how do you like those Solar guitars?
