I had an original Metaltronix and the only reason it sounded good was because I stuffed a Friedman modded jcm 800 chassis into it.

Wrong!

My single channel pony is less than 4,5k - and it's nicer :D

I see knobs that go to "11" and all I can think about is Nigel from Spinal Tap. Such a fucking funny scene, every guitarist needs to see, right? I tried a Friedman JJ Jr and the knobs went to 11 but the gain was only a 7, if compared to, say my Boogie at 6, that's Friedman at 11. I never have my Boogie gain or drive or volume at 10 because that's 11. Much too much, and that's without a boost pedal. I like Lee and had a GP1000 pre amp and that has gobs of gain, it went to 27 on a scale of 1-10. It ate tubes for lunch so I sold it.

I'm sending my money to Larry.

$4500? :hys: :hys: :hys: I’ve got $4600 into my Monomyth Marshall, KSR Ares, Mesa Mark IV, and Peavey XXXII. These builders are out of their fucking minds. :loco:
Well thanks to amp builders such as Friedman etc. The prices are skyrocketing like hell.
You mean the people that buy them?

People can put whatever price tag they want on an amp but if nobody buys it they will certainly come up with a way to lower the prices.

Gotta admit them also. And never implied that they couldn't but it doesn't change the fact that the prices are outrageous these days.

They are I agree. I have talked to builders and USA guys paying for premium parts and then either their time for handwire or sub contracts does cost money. I get it, they are in business to make money but some of them are over the top with their premiums.

I have only bought "botique" amps used but I do see a few great amps new for $2,250 give or take so 3k - 5k to me is nuts.

Man Im hoping to have a similar stable as you. That Mark IV earlier got snatched up pretty quick. Oh well Im probably going into conserve mode until we get out of lockdown.

I definitely dont get the high prices these days. We had it good with Peavey. They were pumping out US made amps that were pretty awesome and most were built like tanks. Hell I think the VTM was actually made from a tank. And they came in around a grand all day.

Im really thankful for some of the brands we still have like KSR, Revv, and even Mesa where you get a lot for your money. Hell even though a Splawn doesnt have all the bells and whistles as some of the companies I listed they still come in right at the 2k mark. Somebody somewhere said I can get 4000 off the hair metal guys for a basic modded Marshall and everyone followed suit.
Yeah, that Mark IV was posted two, three days ago, and then it was gone. Then came up again yesterday, and gone again. Maybe a buyer backed out or something. It’d probably be a good idea to hold out anyway, with the economic uncertainty and all. Besides, people will probably be giving shit away in a month or two, sad to say....So, how do you like those Solar guitars?

I love them. I have the A1.6D, an E2.6, and an S1.6. The 1.6 models have SS frets and the A1.6D has Evertune bridge. I rarely put either of my 1.6 models down the E2.6 is a nice guitar but really basic. Nothing mind blowing just a barebones guitar. I would say the 2.6 models are on par with the Jackson X series but in my experience Solar has better QC. The 1.6 models are just fantastic but its kind of ruined me for other guitars in the price point. I would like to get a Charvel though. Im spoiled with ss frets and evertune though

As I understand it, it costs around $1,200 to 1,800 to make those boutique amps. A few friends and I calculated the costs based on knowing a few people who have done it. The numbers are an honest assessment. Chances are high it toward the lower number of circuit boards are populated in foreign countries and simply “assembled” in the USA.

Yes, I’ve heard the Evertune system is amazing. I’d like to score a Solar V with one. One of these days.

That's probably about right. If you then figure your time into it, I'd think you'd need to about double those amounts for a reasonable price per unit to make a living off.....not a great living, just a living. So, amps costing in the $3k-3.5k range make a lot of sense for these boutique builders to my mind. That doesn't mean I'd pay that for them, but I can see them getting there.

I suspect what they do is look and think that by the time they're to that figure, they've cut out 90% of the market who can't/won't afford that regardless and figure they might as well push up a bit more as they're going to do good to get a dozen orders regardless. When you figure the other direction, to make $50k a year, you'd need to sell 3 dozen amps at $3.5 or 2 dozen at $4.5 (after subtracting out parts/expenses) and figure you might as well go for the higher value and hope for enough orders. (Or do some planning that direction.)

I tried to do a little looking at what my '79 Marshall 2203 would have cost new and projected it forward to 2020. I suspect it's a hell of a lot closer to that $4.5k than we'd expect. Some of it is that import amps with good sound and bells'n'whistles are dirt cheap now as a comparison. I can go buy a Chinese built Marshall that's a good sounding, trustworthy amp I could drag around the country for just over $1k.

Regardless, it puts that $4k SLO price into perspective. I trust Soldano more than about anyone else to deliver, even if it's not being hand assembled by Mike now.

Thanks for posting! Not my type of sound but i'm sure some will love it.

The tones- especially the lead- seem really good to me. The cosmetic huge light-up logo is embarrassing though, lol yikes. Same thing but 10% of the size would look way cooler.

^^ Lose the 1970's disco font on the front panel too, JESH

Agreed.

If you built an amp would you only change $1500 to $2000?
Scott Splawn does just sayin' I doubt his boards are made in China either and he makes his own headshells and speaker cabinets too.
