I was getting a setup done on a new guitar yesterday and when I walked in the shop I saw a mint clean half stack for $750. I bought it.

I really like the cleans out of it and it cleans up nice on high gain when you roll back the volume.

Wondered what you guys thought about these.

heard some really nice and smooth lead tones from them. you pretty much summed up every review i've ever read from them. randyvansykes has done some really nice clips with his. never heard any of them doing any of the brootz though...

Awesome amp. I gigged with one for years. My friends still say it was the best tone I ever had and I've gigged with a lot of different amps. Awesome cleans and great dirt

I have been using a Legacy 3 for the last year and a half and I really like it. As I understand it, the Legacy 2 made some circuit changes that were undone when they went to version 3 as far as channels 1 & 2 go (Channel 3 is identical to 2 but has a gain boost switch).

I really like the way it sounds. The cleans a super clean while still having some body and sparkle. The gain channels get me where I need to be. I don't do metal, but I do loud rock type stuff that it handles really well.

More than any thing else the Legacy is LOUD. I think the biggest, and maybe only complaint I have heard about the Legacy 1 is that it can be tricky to balance the volume between the 2 channels. I think there's a master volume mod out there that takes care of that though.

I should also add that I'm really not a Steve Vai fan at all. I just happened to play the Legacy 3 on a chance visit to the Carvin store and thought it was one of the best amps I had ever heard.

I kick myself in the ass for getting rid of mine daily.

I got one in the first 6 months they started making them and would love to either get another or a 3. Preferably a 3 because it's got the extra channel and MIDI options and if it sounds anything like the first version, I'd love the hell out of it.

I only got rid of it because I wanted to go anti-Vai. I was a major fanboy in high school, was playing a JEM into a Legacy and then got into Pantera pretty heavily and wanted to go in a different direction so I sold it.

I used to run a Digitech RPS-1900 in the loop, that old Digitech rack unit. I'd crank the SHIT out of the Legacy and then turn down the output on the Digitech, it was like a poor man's attenuator, but it really got that Legacy to sing. I really loved the sound of the original Greenback cabs, as well.

People said you couldn't do metal on that amp, but I had a 31-band EQ in the loop that I'd switch in and out, dropping a few mids and tweaking here and there got a killer scooped sound that wasn't overly mushy. There's a lot more sounds in that amp than just the two channels.

It's a killer amp. Cuz it doesn't sound really like anything else. I miss my old one on occasion. Fucker was loud, but I tamed it with my Rocktron Xpression. Always boosted mine, but the clean channel was the best clean ever I have played. I liked JJ6L6's in it too. way more than the EL34s. made it sound more round. Also, these amps need front loaded cabs to sound their best. Outta my Splawn 2x12 and Mesa 2x12, it sounded terrible, but outta my VHT pitbull 2x12 it was incredible.

Here are a couple clips:

It sounds insane with this Legacy cab. I love v30s though.
