Three tone packages

I've become convinced that every guitarist should have three tone packages: 1. live band, 2. studio, and 3. solo (as in, practicing by yourself). It's most likely that these three are not the same setups at all. There have been tones that I loved when I was jamming alone, but when I played with others I just disappeared in the noise. Then when I adjusted my levels to cut through the mix, I sounded like ice picks by myself. Or perhaps you have a lot of low-end which becomes pointless once you're playing with a bassist, and you end up sounding muddy. I've never been in a studio situation, but I've always heard guys try different rigs in that situation.

Concur?

I use the same setup with everything if needed. When I rehearse, I take either my SL5 or my head and 2x12. If I am playing live, I take either of them depending upon the gig or volume needed.

One thing that is consistent is the fact that I take my Two-Notes to gig and in the studio. I can flavour the cabs to what works for the particular song or set that I have to run with.

I think you should just use your fingers to adjust the knobs on your amp for the situation that you are in.

Sure... that's how I do it because I can only justify owning one rig.

Change the cabs, turn the knobs...all the same. One always adjusts the EQ depending upon where you are. My goal is to bring less with me when I can.
