I play modern metal and classic hard rock/metal.

ENGL Invader 100
Mako Dorado PTP

Same musical tastes here...........I'm assuming you are all Marshall/Splawn now ???

Reason I ask is because I've always been intrigued by the Invader.

JVM/Blackmore these days. The Invader was a total bummer. It had everything I wanted in an amp...except for the right tone!  Overall, the amp is pretty dark sounding and mushy IMO. Ch 3 was really close but not all the way there. IMO, the JVM destroys that amp.

I had 2 Splawn modded Marshall plexi RI's a few years ago when he first started out. They got totally buried in my band. They sounded great by themselves though. I am really looking forward to hearing the QR and especially the Nitro at the amp fest.

Yeah, the Blackmore is probably my fave so far. I should be getting my Splawn soon. If it doesn't work out, I will more than likely pick up another Blackmore and be done with it. I'm tired of flipping amps. The only other thing that intrigues me is the VHT Sig X (since I loved the CL). But I can't stand amps with a billion knobs/options.

lee jackson ampeg/ lee jackson preamp. both utter garbage............ :bleh:
5150/ 5150II, i could see how other people would love them....................
jcm800 2205, holy shit, i tried to love this amp, but...............(fwiw), i love the single channels, 50watt, and 100watt.

Engl 530 Preamp - not what I had in mind at all. Could never get it to sound like the clips.
JCM900 - Couldn't get a useable sound out of it to save my life.
Mode 4 - Just plain sucked.

Marshall Vintage Modern. Probably THE biggest dissappointment for me ever. I thought it was going to be a JMP with an effects loop, ppimv, and footswitchable boost. Its not.

I wouldn't say that I've ever been disappointed in any amp. After hearing them hyped up beyond possibility at forums, I can usually tell they're not for me, and so when I finally hear how crappy they are, I just have more to laugh about when people spew forth insanity about how amazingly perfect their new amp they are about to sell is.

Everything exists for a reason. Most amps happen to exist to make me laugh, and a few exist to actually sound good.

Suhr modded Marshall 2203. Worst sounding amp I had ever owned or played.

Yeah, that is another one that disappointed me as well. I have tried a few times to dig that amp, and you know I am a Marshall fag, but it just didn't do anything for me at all.

For me it was the Engl Fireball. I thought it would be a good versatile high gain head. That is where I was disappointed, it had a great metal distortion, but a lifeless clean and no midgain sounds to speak of. Pretty much a 1 trick pony.

Carvin X100B? - thought I was getting a bargain. Nope, I got what I paid for.
Lee Jackson Perfect Connection Preamp - sounded NOTHING like some of nice sounding modded marshalls that I'd owned/heard
Mesa .50 - Hated almost all of the sounds. Maybe I'm not a Mesa guy.
Kasha Rockmod - Heard others that sounded great - not sure if I had the wrong power amp / cab or what but I never liked the one I had.
Splawn Prodmod - Loved the clips, but the amp didn't do anything for me. It wasn't horrible, just average. Clean channel was an obvious afterthought that should have been left out.

All Rivera's. Love the American channel for dialing in old school Fender tones but the British channel is so raspy/grainy it actually sounds like something is broken in the amp. I actually want a Fender style amp and if Rivera ever did a lower priced amp with just that American channel, 35-45 watts, I would be all over it.

I mostly just buy older Marshalls so I don't get disappointed too often.

Ive had a few amps that Ive gotten that I didn't dig till I played them awhile and figured out exactly what they can do. Then again I've played some stuff I just didn't agree with at all.

The vintage modern I played a few weeks back was pretty bad, all though I wasn't expecting it to be much either.

mesa single recto

like the reliability, hate the fizzyness. "Modern" mode sucks.
I do like the cleans more than any multi channel Marshall, but less than just about any Fender.

To much of the dissapointment of some here I gotta say my mesa mark III blue stripe. That amp is almost great but not really imo, there's some overall sterileness and harshness that I cannot dump outta that thing no matter what I do. I've dialed and tube swapped to my heart's content but it just won't happen, it's close but no cigar. I usually build and mod my own amps but I took it to a friend of mine that is an ace with the hot-rodded fender topology for him to do some work on it, I just didn't want to fool with it, look inside one, complicated as fuck and in a tight space no less. It should be the cats ass when I get it back though, I'm hoping for it, like I said it was close just not quite there, otherwise I wouldn't have even bothered having it modded.

Hmmm.... there have been so many. :D

A few that come to mind immediately;

Diezel Herbert
Roccaforte HG-100
Budda SD-80
Suhr modded JCM800 (sorry about that JB!) :aww:
Cornford MK50

Many others...

Strangely though, I want to try them all again

For me (as a rock/hard rock guy) -

Uberschall - too much low end, not higher mids. I've played it at a couple ampfests, and everyone else loves how it sounds, but I don't see it...

SLO - the couple times I played it, I thought my old TSL60 sounded almost as good (how sad is that). That being said, I'd love to try one again.

JVM - to be fair, I don't have enough time on this amp, but a first go around with the amp wasn't all that inspiring

Deliverance 120 - see JVM. Needed to try it on a better cab than it was hooked up to.

JSX - too much of a cocked wah sound and the channels didn't balance well.
JCM 800 - boosted they're ok for me but since I can't turn up to head popping levels, it wasn't very inspiring.
