I've been driving/boosting the green channel of my DSL for quite some time now. It does its job but I think I want to find something else in the same realm. I haven't used a TS9 in a long time...isn't that basically just like the SD-1? The Suhr Riot looks pretty good but is that just a distortion pedal?

I'm in the same boat with the same amp. Keep wanting to try an 808 but not sure I want to drop a 100+ bucks on a whim...

A TS9 will be a bit smoother. A good choice is a Barber LTD.

You might try a Timmy. The EQ is really cool on the Timmy and its a nice boost.

I am also a big fan of the Maxon OD-808, great for boosting. Though in a recent clip, I preferred a modded SD-1 to the OD-808, so go figure....

I got a keeley modded voodoo sparkle drive that i love. I also have a BBE Green Screamer thats great.

anyone ever try the MXR Zakk pedal? Seems cheap enough to give it a whirl to see if I like it or not...

I have one and like it, use it with my Marshall...I haven't tried lots of different pedals but it sounds good to me. I have read that it's based off the SD-1, so depending on how different it is..it may not be what you want.

Offhand I see higher input impedance and a darker voicing. Nothing else really stands out. Oh, the tone knob gives you control over a different frequency band. Three components difference that I can see.

The MXR classic overdrive's that GC carries only are great little pedals. There is an internal dipswitch that changes between a tube screamer sound to the ZW boost. I have an SD-1 too and they sound different but equally good and are only $30 or $40 new. The TS side is the same as the GT-0D by the way. Good luck!

The hardwire tube overdrive makes a great boost and is a really nice pedal that gets overlooked often.

couple of options,

the Nobels ODR-1 is found on many of the best studio pedalboards out there, I have one of the 10th anniversary editions that has an extra pre boost. Love that pedal and it is fairly affordable.

also, if you are just looking/using it as a boost, check out Xotic's EP booster'

as well as the HAO Rust Booster.

both of these do a great job of preserving your guitar's natural tone and will get you "over the top" well.

BTW I own two of the three. The EP is one I have used before.

the bb preamp is a great choice too. +1 on that one.

the sparkle drives clean inject is great! The pork loin is similar, and more flexible, but injects the clean differently.

This is my answer as well. It's two pedals in one for a fraction of the cost brand new. It is my #1 drive pedal. I think it looks pretty cool too FWIW.

That mxr has me interested...I've seen it before but never gave a second thought to it.

T-Rex MAB and Barber Direct Drive are my 2 favorites. I mainly use the MAB.........much warmer/organic TS-9/808 vibe. The Direct Drive is cool too and really open sounding at low drive levels. Only problem I have with it is that it has a ton of volume, so it is sometimes a bit too much if using it as a semi-clean boost (volume up/gain low). I have to back the volume down around 1 o'clock to keep it from getting muddy.

bad monkey for cheap. EQ is variable enough you can get some good tones from it.
