Tired of my SD-1, need another drive pedal

I have an SD-1, MXR Classic, MXR ZW, Maxon 808, Nobel ODR-1, GFS Greenie, GFS Twin OD and a Bad Monkey. My choice through my DSL is the 808. YMMV.

I think, we have just established that there are tons of great drives that can fit a great many styles.

we should set up a swap rotation / hot potato of drives that we like. Just mail them around to each other and if we find one we like, go to our favorite store and buy it.

Kind of like a "pedal of the month" club.

the key would be you don't tell which pedal you put in the rotation.

SURPRISE!

Bad thing is, It is so hard to trust people... I re read this and saw how it sounds.

It would be cool. But impossible to do.
:aww:

I use a Keeley modded TS-9 and a BB preamp. Both are great.

The Suhr Koko boost mentioned by Rogue is a great option too since you get both a clean boost and a mid boost.

I'd be OK with that.

That mxr has me interested...I've seen it before but never gave a second thought to it.

the great thing about them is you can buy them new at GC for thirty or forty bucks but they bring $50 plus on ebay since they are limited edition and hard to find (till they rereleased them last month). Either way as good as any ts type of pedal I have used and only thirty bones. I love the SD-1 too and I think you will dig this a LOT.

I've heard the Barber Direct Drive is awesome. I just got a Suhr Koko Boost and I love it. More of a clean boost than an overdrive but works awesome. I love it most for what it does to my clean channel. It also has boost mids feature. It's like having two pedals in one.

I have been using a pedal called a Luxury Drive which is pretty good, one knob boost sorta thing. Funny too because I have been thinking of breaking out the old SD-1 recently.

I like the following:

Cmatmods Brownie pedal
Marshall Bluesbreaker II
Boss Power Stack
Carl Martin Plexitone
Radial Tone Bone Classic and Hot Brit

My two favs that haven't been sold or traded over the past few years are the Xotic BB+ and Lovepedal Eternity. Also, for the money the MXR Classic Overdrive is a hell of a deal. I like it far more than a DS1.

I've been through many OD pedals and the one thats stood the test of time is the Barber Direct Drive pedal. I liked it so much I bought the Super Sport version.

i've got a luxury drive as well. it's more along the lines of a fulltone fat boost with a bit of high end sparkle.. though it does fatten up a dsl pretty nicely.. imho. ymmv.

I've been driving/boosting the green channel of my DSL for quite some time now. It does its job but I think I want to find something else in the same realm. I haven't used a TS9 in a long time...isn't that basically just like the SD-1? The Suhr Riot looks pretty good but is that just a distortion pedal?

MAXON OD-9 !!!

You will thank me later...

G.

Jetter makes a good dirt box. I have a Red 2. Two pedals in one.

It gives a JCM tone on the clean channel of my knucklehead Tre.

Hard to find them though. Worth a plug and play.

the Suhr Riot works great as a booster as well as a full-on dirt pedal in front of a clean-set amp. I think they're great, and gonna get one when I get back from work in a few weeks time.

fulltone OCD

Ditto that. On the rare occasion I use an OD pedal any more, it's always that one. The modded TS9 doesn't get any love, nor did the other OD pedals that I used to own after I bought the OCD. It's a very dynamic and organic pedal. I just use mine to push the front end of the amp (high volume, low gain settings on the pedal).
