I've used a bad monkey in the past...I liked it but I'm wanting a different flavor I think. I've been trying to find a used MXR classic overdrive for shits and giggles, although I just bought a polytune yesterday.

Try a Jekyll and Hyde pedal from Visual sound. It is the only boost/distortion pedal i have owned since 2006. For around $100 used you can't go wrong with it.

I think, we have just established that there are tons of great drives that can fit a great many styles. we should set up a swap rotation / hot potato of drives that we like. Just mail them around to each other and if we find one we like, go to our favorite store and buy it.
Kind of like a "pedal of the month" club.
the key would be you don't tell which pedal you put in the rotation.
SURPRISE!
Bad thing is, It is so hard to trust people... I re read this and saw how it sounds.
It would be cool. But impossible to do.
:aww:

Pedal of the month club!!!! i'd definitely be up for something like that. it could be sorta kinda like ten degrees of kevin bacon "he/she traded or bought from you and me both, and has 'had great deals with both of us' in his sig, so, by association, you could be trusted/i could be trusted"......and so on and so on.
it might mean amending your/our particular lists of transactions to reflect the mostrecent dates to keep it reflective of someone's activities trading/selling wise...i'd have no problem with it at all....
shit, the world was built on the honor system, and, well, i think all in all, there are a pretty good group of people on this site that all want to keep posting actively and are interested in keeping this a safe, friendly, trusted place to do gear transactions. i don't think people are here logging hours on a day posting about gear, just to rip someone off at the first chance they get. maybe im just naive and want to believe the best in people, but, i'd definitely be up for pedal of the month club!!!!! or, maybe in order to do it, we could set it up like a "pay fantasy" sports league. get in on the rotation for 100-150$ paypal bucks, (pending the value of what we set, kinda like a Christmas "grab bag") that way, you pay in, and then we can set a window for shipping when it's rotate time (say....7 days) then, the "experimental window" would be a month. we could keep it going as long as we wanted, and people could get in the rotation as soon as they pay, and not miss a beat for the next rotation. if it gets too big, we could just break it down by effect type : distortion, boost, flange, delay, chorus, etc.

i like the idea a lot!

I did this years ago on HCAF with my Crispy Creme Treble booster and it came back fine. It must have been used by over 20 people, on guy would use it for a few days and then ship it to the next guy on the list and so on. It worked out great

I use a Suhr Koko Boost for the Blue and Red channel's of an XTC Classic. The mid boost really helps it cut through. Clean boost is just that. Takes your base tone and makes it bigger and crunchier!!!

I almost got rid of the Koko for another boost. I was interested in an OCD so I went to GC to get so I could take it back if I decided I didn't like it.

It took no more than a few minutes of messing around to find the Koko was superior. Of course, I suppose this is going to depend on what one is going for, but for me and a Plexi type amp, the Koko rocked it. I guess I'd sort of fell into the "want a new pedal" thing. I'm just glad I had the ability to try them both out side by side. I took the OCD back the next day and have not blasphemed my Koko sense.

Seriously, it's an awesome pedal and I love the mid switch. Each position does its own thing and it's nice to pick one depending on my mood for the day. The more I play it, the more I like it. I used to never use the middle mid position, but wow, it'll turn a plexi into one angry amp.

And no, cutting will not be a problem with this pedal.

I know what you mean. I have the Red channel set for Plexi mode. Kick in the mid boost and it kills!!!

Pedal of the month thing is a great idea! Can Canadians participate?? Personally I think a paypal account where we pay in a one time 10$ fee would cover "lost" or "stolen" items if one of the pedals did not make it's next trip. I've been on similar trials before and the pedal moved along fine. I like my bad monkey a lot but I would love to try a Barber direct Drive or a sparkle drive!

wow, I'm good at ideas but bad with organization/execution... Who wants to work the logistics?

Ditto that. On the rare occasion I use an OD pedal any more, it's always that one. The modded TS9 doesn't get any love, nor did the other OD pedals that I used to own after I bought the OCD. It's a very dynamic and organic pedal. I just use mine to push the front end of the amp (high volume, low gain settings on the pedal).
Absolutely!

The OCD loves ALL of my amps.
I set it...level at maximum, gain at minimum, tone at 12:00, HP switch up to HP (so it gets rid of a bit of low end) ....brown sound, it's a great extra ooomph that's not muddy or voer the top.

Hmmm...sounds like something I need to check out. What's up with all the versions of this pedal, is V4 the one to get these days?

Everytime they tweak it to try and improve it (based on owners comments and suggestions) they call it a new version. Version 4 is supposed to be the last version...it's done. It removed some excess bass that version 3 had.

OCD V4 also went to asymmetrical clipping, the first the versions were symmetrical clipping.

Great info on the OCD versions:

WTF!

*NOTE: Some OCDs with a serial number below #16061 have been marked v4 on the interior, nevertheless they still have the v3 circuit board and do not have all the modifications of the v4. A rumor has been going around that the labeling of these v3:s as v4:s was a joke from the assemblers - weather or not they truly differ from the v3:s is not known to the author.

If I remember correctly, Fulltone had a note on their website at one time stating they were V4 circuits on modded v3 boards.

Yeah i have a Fulltone OCD as well, its pretty boss! (pun intended)
