To Jumbo or not to jumbo...

So my 2001 Les Paul Classic needs a refret. The current frets have been recrowned twice, and there simply isn't enough fret material left. So I'm trying to decided on two important factors. Do I take the leap up to jumbo frets, and do I get SS frets? I have really liked the frets on some of the Ibanez Prestige models I have owned. Has anyone put jumbos on their Les Paul? And as far as the SS vs nickel frets, can someone offer advice on this? Thanks for the help guys.

Jumbo and SS here. Love em to death. I say do it. They'll never wear out and aside from the cost there's not really any downside.

+1

I recently had two of my guitars refretted with jumbo SS frets and couldn't be happier with the result. Do it!

+1000.

I put 6150 on my LP Classic and that guitar felt so, so much better. Every Lester I get now will get 6100 or 6150 Jumbo wire.

This on all my guitars.

if you like jumbos then yes get them. Also go stainless steel and you wont be needing a re-fret anytime soon ;)

+1 on the jumbo...had 2 70s LP Customs (fretless wonders) done with 6100 frets and had the fingerboards compound radius-d at the same time...LOVE them.

The only potential issue you may have, is if the neck is on the large side for you, is it MAY feel too big, if you go with the jumbos.

How does the neck fit you, now?

I personally love jumbo (and stainless) frets on large necks, but I have fairly large hands/long fingers.

A big +1 on finding the best person you can to do the job. As stated, not an area you want to "save" money. :D

JUST had my 2001 LP refretted with 6100 stainless steel fretwire. LOVE IT!! Would do it everytime if I could afford it.

YES. Absolutely no question about it. Go Jumbo and SS if possible.

All my guitars have 6100 jumbos. . . and I'm about to get my Taylor 314ce refretted with them as well.

My Anderson Drop Top has SS jumbos on it and I love them. My LP Standard will be getting them when it's time for a refret.

I was just thinking about this,My 82 lp standard needs a fret job and I'm torn, should I do 6100 or 6105?what's better?

I personally like 6100 due to the fact that they're both wide & tall and the crown is subtle. Makes for smooth transitions IMO.

One thing is jumbo frets make you have a light touch or you can pull notes sharp, but light is fast, so.

I even put 6100's on my acoustics
