To straplock or not to straplock?

Is there a good reason not to use straplocks? I hardly ever play out.

I like the dimarzio clip-lock straps, but the PRS strap buttons work for me more than most normal strap buttons.

No locks on any of my guitars. Just the oversized strap buttons.

Locks for me.

Guitars cost much not to. I've had many come undone without locks in the past.

Locks if you play out or really like them (which I do both), but if you play at home just put in some oversized strap buttons.

Oh, you could also do the beer bottlecap trick. Drill a hole in a bottlecap and lock your strap between it and the cap.

I just dont want to drill into my strat or tele :( I will have to take a second look and see if I really need them.
My EPI LP needs them because the strap always comes off the one strap button by the pickup selector. That I have no problem drilling into

I don't play out much these days and I still wouldn't think of buying a guitar without installing strap locks. I've had straps fall off regular buttons way too often not to.

Aren't you supposed to? I didnt with my lp, but I would be afraid not to with my strat and crack the finish

Go to supermarket/liquor store and look for the large grolsch beer with the ceramic stopper for a bottle cap. The flip top. Pay couple bucks each for the washer/strap lock and get free beer!!!

There are a couple smaller brands that use this now also but grolsch should be easy to find.

I play out all the time and I'll never use strap locks again. Completely unnecessary.

Try saying that after one of your beloved axes takes the Nestea plunge on to a concrete floor and gets a crack in the back of the neck. That'll change anybody's tune about not using them.

Better safe than sorry! Just do it-I've only tried dunlops but they haven't failed me once.

I used to have straplocks in all 3 of my gigging guitars. Dunlops work really well.

Now after changing my arsenal completely only my Charvel San Dimas pro mod has the locks that came with the guitar. In the other two I mainly use for live stuff I have a very sturdy leather strap which I feel is enough. At least for the time being.

I disagree completely. I will never spend more that $300 on a guitar and not put strap locks on it. I've had (and many others on the boards according to this thread) far too many incidents with non-straplock equipped guitars. Doesn't matter what strap material/how thick, or the age of it, it will always fall off. Luckily I've caught the guitar by the neck 90% of the time.

But hey, whatever works for you! No need if it's not necessary for you.

The straplock on my LP just stripped out a couple days ago :(. I have the worst luck with gear. Strings break constantly, nut on the input jack falls off, stap burgle hole strips out. I just did the toothpick trip on my semi-hollow, and now I guess it's time to do it to the LP as well. God do I hate guitar/drum maintenence.

I've had both strap locked and non-strap locked let go... even with strap locks, be sure to check the screws once and a while. ;)

Dunlops on every instrument I own. Gig or home use, makes no difference.
