Hi guys,

I found a Tokai LP Custom for sale locally and wanted to see if anyone could help me work out what model it is and what it's worth?

It has the following features :
Mahogany body with 2 piece flamed maple top
Finished with Nitro lacquer
Mahogany neck with Ebony fretboard and mother of pearl inlays
Solid weight to it, must be around 9 or 10lbs!
Binding nibs on the ends of all the frets (just like a Gibson LP Custom)
Headstock has the flower style inlay
2 screw truss rod cover
Made In Japan written on the back of the headstock
Serial Number is 0408799 (which i believe dates it to 2004)

I suspect the tuners are non original, and i'm sure the white/cream EMG's are not stock either. But that's no big deal to me

Here's some pics i took with my iPhone :

I initially thought it might be an LC-85 or similar, but since it has an ebony board and also binding nibs on the frets... I'm guessing it must be a higher end model?

Trying to make sense of all of the different versions of these mij les pauls is difficult for me. Based on those specs and pics, I would say it's probably a good one if the price is right...

Tokai guitar registry puts it as a MIJ 2004 or 1984, but it looks newer to me. I can't tell which model it is, I'm not that knowledgeable, but the gear page guys might have a better idea. thegearpage.net

What's up with the smudge on the headstock? And sticker on the rear?

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's a 2004, but I never saw a Tokai LP Custom in this sunburst finish.. They're almost always Black, White or Wine Red. Someone at the Tokai Forum thought it might have been a custom order, since it has that finish aswell as all the features of the top of the range LC200 model.

The smudge on the headstock is actually a ding in the clearcoat which looks worse than it really is. The sticker on the back is the price sticker.. Stupid stores never use hang tags, but slap stickers on everything
