Tone is in the……….

Tone is in our ears. If it sounds good to you, it is good (subjectively) - which is about it.

One person's glorious tone can be another person's worse tone ever.

It helps consensus if you are with others who like types / groups of similar tones.

I like '70s hard rock / prog rock / '80s thrash and new wave / prog metal tones, I wouldn't be discussing tones with someone who's into country or modern, 8+ multi-string, dropped-tuning to mud levels, tones, etc.

Tone is definitely a weird thing. So are on line forms I thought this might get a couple comments on the Epstein aspect of the pedal and we’re discussing gooches, linguini arms and tone.

I sold a semi hollow a few months back. Local sale, dude came by my place and plugged in to my lil rig. It sounded fucking phenomenal. I grabbed it and started playing and it sounded like crap. We chatted about it for a second and he was of the opinion that it’s similar to hearing your voice back on a recording implying that when your playing it somehow sounds different just like when you hear your own voice.

I learned a long time ago to pay attention, even to someone who might not be as adept or is but just not in your musical realm. EVERYONE who gigs and plays enough times has tricks up the sleeve. Have you ever just watched a good punk rock guitarist's right hand? The quality of downstroke precision. It's amazing to me. Like some of the chugging guys on this forum do. It's definitely something I can work toward applying to blues rhythm playing. To maximize the number of ideas I like to watch others play to pick up licks, techniques, and stagecraft. Of course blues is my preference but there is so much to learn about entertaining.

Didn't particularly care for the tone in the video but maybe I'm not clear on what we are doing :dunno:

@rsm kind of nailed it for me

*which he often does

I have no idea what where doing either. I just thought it would be cool to link that shitty video somewhere where I wouldn’t get banned because it’s to “ political “

That's nothing bro. You'd have to do a lot more than that to get banned here
I see this and I like it. I wasn’t talking about this joint. The forum w the initials that won’t be named gave me a warning for posting a pic of Pete Bootygeig in an RIP Pee Wee Herman thread and I started to notice the hypocrisy……..
I doubt I’ll contribute here much but it looks like my kinda place. Joined in 2007 ? I had know idea.

This. I hate blues, but I play it in my cover band. So when I see a good blues player I try to cop licks and any tone trickery that I can apply to my own playing
