Current stable: Quickrod 100, Ceriatone Molecular, Roccaforte Custom 40 (and 30)

I will eventually get a proper plexi for those classic tones but I'm aiming for modern (tech death) sounds. Given the above am I really missing anything without a 5150/6505 or any of the more common offerings? I really dig what I've heard from jp2c and diesel vh4 but sadly never played. What would u recommend to get something distinct from and different enough from Marshall camp tones (and HEAVY ofc!)

Thanks

I have mostly Marshalls, and Marshall flavored booteeks (Engl, Bogner). For something different, I have a JP-2C, and a Diezel VHX. For cleans I have Fender Super Twins.

Mesa and Diezel are good starting points for "not Marshall" IMO. Marks and Rectos are popular here too. The Zuta GBG120 could be worth a look?

U have my dream amps! That Zuta sounds disgusting. I was definitely hoping to avoid stepping into the 3-4k$ bracket but maybe that's just what not-Marshall costs??

For tech death tones you want something tight af. I’d think that your Molecular would be able to pull that off with the onboard switches, or at least boosted.
While I find the Uber Ultra to be filtered and synthetic sounding, it’s extremely aggressive, versatile, and can be set up for everything from syrupy doom to cutting, scalpel like tones. It’s a brutal, Swiss Army knife of an amp and would excel at tech death metal.

EVH Stealth 50 watt. I had that amp and loved it.

Yeah, lowest cost option would be to start with the EVH Stealth amps, and see what you think.
The price just goes up from there lol!
Only other thing I would say is that "tech death" tones and VH4 are not really a match to my ear.
Vh4 is a great amp, but it is nowhere near tight.
The newer ones are more aggressive, but they still have that smoother compression in the tone.

Cool name. Welcome to Rig-talk.

Get a mesa dual rec, a Larry, a wizard, and a Lenz.

Definitely try some EVH amps, they just work. Very usable array of distorted tones.
I think you are forgetting one thing:

EVH are good but idk how much it would differ from just boosting what you already have, but you could apply that to any of these amps really

Engl - Savage 120, Fireball 100
Bogner Uber Ultra
EVH / 6505 variant
New recto reissue if you want something different

For different and modern, I'd go with a Mesa Mark of some sort. I love my Mark V, but the reissue or a VII, or even a JP2C will do a good modern metal.

I love techdeth lol but fr what’s a band with a tone in the ballpark you want to have

Thanks for the great suggestions and explanations,, you're all my hero

You're a nobody on Rig Talk without a Snorkler.
I would get one for the name alone,, and ofc recognition and acceptance. But alas, then we're back in Marshall territory.
.... filtered and synthetic sounding,...
lol u just described my axefx. srsly tho,, uber ultra piques my interest based on "extremely aggressive, scalpel" . Molecular is the closest to the tones i'm after for sure out of the amps i have. The power section alone can dial into entire new flavors.

This is what i'm wondering, too.

I'll have to start thinking about specific examples. I like the nastiness and pointiness of Joshua Travis, synthetic weirdness like Rings of Saturn, the menacing guttural balrog growl of Tosin. Funny that Tosin does it using a pedal that sounds nothing like the amp its named after (at least in any demos I've ever heard...)

I can get fairly close to these w Molecular in 4cm w axefx aggressive drives and eq in front. It starts to feel like i'm trying to make the amp be something its not. Some of the FAS models come close. Pitbull UL is on my radar for having a not this, not that kinda vibe.

The only things I know about it is it would enable you to use the word "snorkler" more often which is pretty cool and that Bogner doesn't need to advertise since his hair is made out of feathers which means you know that amp will give you wings to fly.

But for real maybe you should consider a MESA of some sort if the snorkler is already ground you have covered.

Out of your choices the vh4 would rule . Channels 3 and 4 cover that great
