Man I haven’t heard that name in a long time. His amps did sound great.

Had a couple of those… can’t recall, Halyin? Hydra? What ever ended up with James was it? Cool Amps…

Early Splawn Modded Plexi

Bogner Uberschall rev blue
Magnatone Super 59 MK1
Reason SM50

Honorable mention is 3 monkeys Virgil. Sounded great, just wasn’t for me

Would put a Bad Cat Lynx at a top 3 easily but feel the others are more established or refined to specific classic tones.

Bad Cat Lynx is more modern in general and pretty awesome for what it is.

I Have a Vega, but never had a chance to try a Gryphon. How do the two compare?
GRYPHON is thick and chewy, with a little bounce in the low end.
VEGA is lean and mean with some really nice thwack to the attack.
GNL is very similar to the Gryphon, just with more gain range and tighter lows.

I also had a HYDRA, and that channel was perfect for lead playing. Really juicy, liquid and compressed sounding. Didn't work for me as well as the others for tight rhythm and riffage though.

The Gryphon, Vega and GNL all respond beautifully to a TS-style boost.
And each has an addictive growling grind to their voicings.

Do you like your Vega? What cabs are you playing it through?

I really like the Vega, it's in my top 10 amps. I've been playing it through either Weber Grey Wolfs or Grey Wolf / Silver Wolf mix. It sounds great through both. I've heard some people say it's a little light on saturation. Maybe so if you're trying to play modern metal, but it can do everything up to hard rock and 80's metal on its own. For me it has just the right tone and feel for thrash metal.

I had a BodyHammer and it was tits. I may go on the hunt for a PlasmaBlade which is wishful thinking I'm sure. I had a deposit to him in 2018 for a new PlasmaBlade build but after 9 months I canceled. Still chat with James after the cancelation and was on good terms...I know he was having issues. Hope he's ok, no reply at all from him via email.
