I am sure I am missing this somewhere, but If i am using the 16ohm Torpedo Captor X as a Silent Record box to plug my amp (Mesa Mark iii 4,4,8 ohm options) into my Focusrite Scarlett and then into Reaper DAW with IR plugins...it does not matter what ohm ouptut of the amp goes into the Captor correct? i can use my 5150 @ any 4,8,16 or my Mesa @ 4,4,8ohm, or whatever else. The only times it matters is if i try to use it as an attenuator, so for example.

The other note which i thin ki saw mentioned but would like confirmed, is if i do use the Captor as an attenuator, I am safe in having the ouptut go from Mesa 8ohm, to 16ohm Captor, into an 8ohm Cab, correct? I should be able to attenuate then? But it has to be in the "lower" possitions in order to engage the speaker outs correct? And disable the 16 ohm impedance mismatch of the Captor?

Of course it matters which impedence tap you use. The 16 ohm captor will present a 16 ohm load for the amp, so use the tap closest to that. 16 ohm on the 5150, and 8 ohms will be as close as you can get with the mark.

For the attenuator -20db output, the vast majority of the power will be going to the load and only a small amount of power to the speaker cab, so the speaker cab impedence almost doesn’t matter. Use a 16 ohm cab and the amp sees 16 ohms, use an 8 ohm cab and the amp is still seeing close enough to 16 ohms.
