These units sound like they could be great , I have read the amp needs to be connected using 8ohms , but you can also connect to your cab if your playing live .
My cab is 16 ohm , so how would that pan out ? .

Does your amp have two 4ohm outputs? Connecting your cab and the Torpedo in parallel would be 5.3 ohms, probably your safest mismatch.

The torpedo reload can have a different load for input and output (load is selectable in the back) if i'm not mistaken. This gives you the ability to match any amp with any cab. I do not own the unit but I was very interested in buying it at one point and did research on it.

The Torpedo live does not support different impedance. It is fixed at 8 ohms.
I've used it live this weekend @ 8 ohms with no problem, running my cab and amps @ 16 ohms.
I don't think it matters that much especially going from 8 to 16 ohms.

The most important part is that your amp is seeing the correct load...or at least a safe mismatch. Your cabinet isn't going to blow an OT, fry SGR, etc.

as i understand and use it, if you connect the output to the a cab it is a pass thru so you are defeating the impedence. so your cab is seeing 16 ohms from the head and the live doesnt factor in.

Oops sorry for the misinformation! For some reason I thought you where talking about the Torpedo Reload, which has a selectable load. Please ignore my first post!

I'm actually interested in any model , it was to use live though so I could still use a 4x12 cab but go direct to desk with the torpedo inline .
If I could have everything at 16ohms that would be perfect .

That's exactly what I did last friday. Friedman->Torpedo Live-> Cab.
All set to 16 ohms. No problem whatsoever.

you want the live i would guess. I use mine onstage, at home silent with in ears, into my protools. makes life pretty easy, line out to my shure in ears (which i feed a band mic to the other channel) then out to the board. dial in the unit for the PA for the place ( save it as a preset if we play there often) sound guys love it once they try it, first time they look at you a little funny

Ahhh thanks guys will check them out , at the minute I have been using an h&k red box so I would imagine the torpedo live is gonna be massive sounding

You have no idea the difference between the live and the red box

oh lord a live vs red box, kinda like that unattractive gal in school that now looks like a supermodel and the only english wprd she knows is Yeah and your the focus of that word. the live isnt perfect, i think the compression on the headphone output isnt great and one of the royer mikes is too dark. but for live work, its so easy. i can play at home totally quiet, and plug into protools and in 5 min of monitoring have dialed in a very good sound ( used to take hours, and be unsafisfying) plus i loaded up the ownhammers and can mix them to make my own mixes. its like cooking over a campfire vs a microwave
