Totally anal...how to 'polish' a guitar with a Satin finish?

..this topic could have been more fun given the title.

How the crap do I clean/polish satin finish guitars without making 'em shiny? Cleaning with dampness seems to get 'em clean but I don't want my nice matte finish all shiny.

I'm guessing they use an extremely fine abrasive to create the finish in the first place...but I don't think I want to go there...and I suppose the polymer finishing creams/polishes fill all that shit in and make it shine as they're designed too :-/

Yeah..I looked around and that seems to be only option...and the finish rubs shiny over time ..

Ah well, have to live with it. I was hoping someone made a product that basically matte'd the finish down :-/

I use a bit of 0000 steel wool. Use it lightly, and it works like a charm.

My Martin D-15 is satin finish and is now polishing where my arm rests on it and the back of the neck. I would use Martin guitar polish to clean a guitar that has the satin finish.

Usually a satin finish is made by adding a chemical flattening agent to a normal gloss finish before it is applied. They don't do it by abrading it. A satin finish should stay satin, or even get flatter over time.

battery acid and 120 grit sand screen works for me.......
