Trade an Axe II for a Pitbull UL?

Hi all,

So I've never really got on with the Axe-Fx II since I've got it. I've discovered I'm not an ultra-tweaker and prefer the simplicity of amps and pedals.

I've potentially got a trade lined up for a VHT Pitbull UL. Now, I own a Herbert and a nice Bogner, but I've always wanted to try and UL. Can people give me some impressions / comparison to a Herbert / Bogner?

Also, should I do it?!

Thanks,

-C

Why not? If ya dont like the AFII, no sense in keeping it around. You should be getting cash on top of the UL as well ;)

I guess it would really depend on what you can actually get out of the UL after resale....I wouldn't do it personally but I don't like VHT's. But....if you stand to make a decent profit then OK. You know you can flip the Axe 2 without much effort at all....unless there is some huge difference in money why not just do that?

i'd say why not, as long as you're getting a fair deal//cash for the AFXII,

if you don't like the pitbull reselling it won't be as quick as the axe II but it's a risk to take if it's an amp you want to try out

Do you play in a band at loud volumes? IMHO the UL smokes most amps when at loud gig volumes, especially Diezels and Bogners....all just IMHO. But sometimes I felt the UL wasn't the most inspiring amp to play at lower volumes, it can come off as dry sounding which is a term usually thrown around whenever VHT's are mentioned. Yes, I still call them VHT.

If you're playing at home I think the Diezel sounds better at lower volumes and the Axe is a great tool to use for recording and low levels as well, but yes the tweaking gets old quick. Having said all that, I found a decent boost pedal does wonders for VHT's in giving them that slight juice/sag, and the FX loops are the best.

Thanks guys. In the UK Ultra Leads sell for about the same as Axe-Fx II's new, in fact, so here it's not such a bad trade. He's offered a Morley wah and a bit of cash on top...I'm tempted.

NB - the amp won't be used at bedroom volume. It will be used for rehearsals and will be up against a 5150II (which the other guitarist has).

Bro, this is completely a personal preference. You know what I would say...it's no secret here around RT.

If you are able to play the UL at volume, DO IT! You won't regret it. Definitely have to be able to turn it up though.

I had an ultra lead ( with eq ) in the mid 90's. I had a Bogner ecstacy and a Soldano SLO at the same time and the VHT was on par with both. Tons of gain with alot of definition. More consistent than the Bogner in that it sounded great every time I turned it on. I love the Bogner too but it was one of those amps that you'd turn on sometimes without touching any knobs and it just sounded different. The VHT sounded great every time.

It will always be played LOUD! Not in my house. Herbert / Bogner for that :)

I think I'm gonna do it. NULD imminent!

I'm thinking about getting rid of the Axe II for similar reasons... but I'm not a pedal dude either... and all the amps that get the sounds I dig without boosts are 3k+. So, Axe II is budget for me, hah.

Do it, once you crank up an UL your Herbert and Bogner will collect dust. :D

Fryette makes the only high gain amps I use any more. Not that I do not like others ... I just do not use them.
