to a guy i met up with through my local CL.
I had my pick between his newer Vader 4x12 and a 2003 Marshall 1960ax with greenbacks for my mesa 2x12 plus some cash from me.

I played both and they both sounded great but man, that Vader cab really did sound pretty damn good with my Powerball so i went with that one.
I'm really digging how tight the low end is and i think for lead work it absolutely sounds killer. I can't wait to just crank this thing up and also give it a go with my recto.

The biggest draw back about it, and most other cabs in my opinion, is that the casters and overall construction don't feel nearly as solid as my recto 4x12 cab. mesa's casters and construction are just top friggin notch but this cab is pretty decent. the rhino lining feels basically indestructible and the grill as well but i wish they hadn't skimped on the casters.

Did you crank it when you tried it out? The speakers in Vaders are very high wattage so they dont break up sweetly like lets say a V30. But they do have crazy clarity and tightness just cold for some when turned up rather loud.

powerball + vader cab?

sickkk

:picsorban: :D

let us know how it sounds cranked. glad you got the chance to play both before hand.

yeah i actually had it cranked for a good while and the more it went up the better the cab sounded.
i just wanted to get a cab with something other than V30s. i own two other 4x12's that have V30's and i felt that the greenback cab was somewhat similar in flavor and the Eminence speakers in the Vader were quite different sounding.

What is a Vader cab? I can obviously see it in the photo, but never heard of it.

In my opinion, the recto have less character because they are overbuilt and don't "breath"

excellent cab's for heavy metal/deathcore scene. they are built like tanks and are customizable. also extremely expensive to purchase right out new.

alot of guys use them out here on the east coast for the deathcore/metalcore scene. i remember posting a picture of whitechapel's old setup which was two vader cabinets.

vader or randall would be my choice. extremely awsome.

i wouldn't consider $729 terribly expensive for a brand new 4x12
i think they're still pretty reasonably priced

What makes a cab more suitable for death metal... the logo?

I would say power and tightness? Maybe not such a need for warmth for classic rock and blues?
I understand what your implying though, Its more for the player than the genre

+1

they mix well live, and the genre of playing with the quick rhythms the cabs hold up well at all volumes with consistant tone.

haha I don't think you guys have to sweat Pete not knowing what tones work for deathmetal best.

Personally for me vaders never jived with my tones live. I used two vader cabs live for an entire tour and was much happier getting back to my Mesa, but that being said they are awesome cabs.

The speakers are going to have more of an impact on that though. I dunno what speakers most Vader cabs come with, but if I liked those particular speakers, I'd rather have them in something like a Bogner cab.
