hoping Santa Claws will get me one of these 4.

are the VOS really worth it over the Trad? i like the idea of the Trad being pleked and whatnot.

how about the LP vs the Hamer? all of my guitars are Explorers or Stars, so that's what i'm used to. but then again, all my guitars are Explorers or Stars, and i'm wanting to try an LP!

Do I need to explain what I put down as my choice? :D

IMO when you buy a Hamer you are buying a piece of art, one of maybe 600 pieces built a year by very senior craftsmen that only build CS pieces. Rufus Leaking Randy has a Korina Standard I believe, ask him how he likes his ;)

Korina is such a badass tonewood and Hamer is such a badass shop... the ONLY thing I don't like about Hamer is that if you buy new resale is horrible. If you're going to keep the guitar forever and ever, then buying new is ok... otherwise, I'd personally buy used. I've never seen a Hamer USA that wasn't at least a very good instrument... most were excellent. Many LPs I've seen have been lackluster... there are good ones out there, but Hamer has a much higher 'good guitar' percentage IMHO than Gibson.

Playboy Chris scored a Monaco Elite for around $1100, I almost shit my pants. You have to have a hole in your head not to jump on that.

I like where this thread is going, before I even opened it.

Gibson's are overpriced, I have a few and have no problem saying it because it's true imo. I like the ones I have but not much better than any of my other much lower priced pieces personally. That whole diminishing returns thing...

Buy used either way...imo.

See, we can agree on some things! :) I have a LP faded sunburst that kills and a nice '90 LP Custom, but they are the exception not the rule. I had to go through a lot of LP's to choose them, and they were purchased 'in hand' not through the internet.

thanks guys!

Hamer it is, i've got a line on new or used, so should be good to go.

guess i'll just ride it out on the LP's and give em a try whenever i see one.

Let the LP hate rage on. I voted fitty nine. Get a used one, and its killer.

i checked out the Monaco's today. they're damned nice, and don't come with the sticker shock like the Standards.

I like how when asked what other guitar companies out there are taking their quality serious Paul Reed Smith himself mentioned Hamer and Anderson. Wonder why he didn't mention Gibson?  I think all my McCarty needs is a different bridge pickup. I'm playing my Andy and McCarty tonight and loving them both. I'm almost ready to rejoin the Gibson crack bash committee.

did you keep your $300 Explorer?

i ended getting one after you posted. guess i'm not complaining about it for $300!

I am shocked that Hamer still has the most votes, I am usually the only Hamer zealot on this forum

Dude, I tried for 13 damn years to find a Gibson that wasn't a piece of shit and only encountered about 4 that weren't. And even those weren't all that great. I gave up on the mahogany set neck 24 3/4" scale design until I played a Hamer. EVERY Hamer, though it's only been about 10 or so that I've played has been great. If they came with the Buzz Feiten Tuning system, they'd be perfect I think.

well, in all fairness, it actually more like 320 or 340!

I LOVE Hamer stuff......but most any Hamer owner would trade their's for a nice Gibson LesPaul immediately if offered. (even if they deny it on replies following this one!)

I have owned my Monaco for 6 years and no way.

Sure, because they could trade, sell off the Gibson then buy two Hamers that were better.

Seriously there are some nice Gibsons out there - even some of the cheaper ones are nice guitars! But you really have to dig for them and play several. I went through over a dozen SGs before I bought my faded, and I wanted to buy a standard. Couldn't find a standard that didn't have some issues, so I bought a faded that was in all aspects a better guitar. Ditto for my explorer - checked out several, picked the best one.

Every Hamer I've owned has been at least a really good guitar. They just have a higher 'good guitar' percentage in my opinion than Gibson does - comparing USA for USA, of course.
