Treble Bleed or 50s Wiring for Les Paul

I'm sick of my tone going to mud when I dial my volume back to clean up my sound (especially on neck pickup). Do you guys recommend 50s wiring or treble bleed circuit for a Les Paul? Which will mess with my tone the least with volume and tone on 10?

I prefer the 50's wiring. To me it sounds more natural.

I plan to go 50s wiring soon myself. I'm generally very traditional when it comes to my gear so doing something decided old school appeals to me. :)

With everything on 10, they should sound the same (though some will claim to hear a difference, mechanically it should be the same).

If you use both the tone and volume knobs together, you might prefer a treble bleed because with '50s wiring, the two knobs become interactive as soon as they are rolled back from 10 and it can be a bit fussy to have to adjust them in tandem to get what you might want.

I've used both methods. I prefer 50s wiring. As stated above, it has a more natural feel to it.

Also, there are about a million different ways to do a "treble bleed," so you might hate some and like others. It can just be a matter of finding the right value resistor and capacitor for what you want.

50's wiring and new caps and 500k pots.

I would not ditch the tone circuit on a LP, especially the bridge pickup. A treble bleed may not be necessary. I typically have my tone on the bridge on 7 or 8 knock the treble harshness.

Thanks but I'm not really looking to upgrade the electronics.

Going with matched 500k pots will take the 50's wiring up another notch. I like to even go a little higher in an LP, like 515K or even 525k. If you measure your current pots they're probably under 500k.

Hell, I assumed you were going 500k pots when you said "50's wiring".

Maybe it's something I should consider than. I think I'll rewire it first with the existing pots and caps

Go 50s wiring with 500k pots (i like Gotoh pots)

My LP Classic has 500k pots. What kind of caps should I go with if I want to go to 50s wiring?

I just installed Wolfetones (Dr. Vintage neck and Marshallhead bridge) and they don't clean up much when rolling back the volume knobs. I would like to try 50s wiring.

500k are the right pots but because of tolerances you need to check them with a volt meter to get their true value. It's possible they're much lower which some like.

Grab this and you'll be set

I like the 525k pots. I test them and then install them accordingly. Are these good?
Higher value just lets more highs through so it's whatever you prefer.

I've been researching this same question myself. A few handy threads to get you started:
