I have a Standard Strat with locking tuners. I would like to change the crappy trem that doesn't stay at all in tune even with locking tuners. What would you recommand? I want something that can be floating.
If everything is set right and nut is lubed and cut properly you really shouldn't have a tuning issue. I have 4 strats and after using some of the "tricks" I learned they all stay in tune well. What type of bridge is on the guitar now? 2 post or 6 screw?
Which trem is on your guitar? I use 1200 grit sand paper folded to just smooth the nut grooves a touch, apply "nut sauce" in the nut grooves and to all of the surfaces that the string goes over or thru including the string tree underneath where the string passes etc etc. If 6 screw the screw heights are very important.
OK, so 2 post modern bridge, should not have an issue with that if you follow my advice, have same one on my American strat and stays in tune great. Mine is set up to float, I did change the string tree to a roller tree and I did add locking fender tuners, may want to consider those low cost upgrades. Tuners approx. $55 and roller tree under $10 but most important is the nut being smooth and cut right and then nut sauce in the grooves.
