Anyone have any experience with the PRS Tremonti treble and bass pickups?
I know they're really hot, but do they clean up alright too?

My FAVORITE pickup set by far. I love riding the volume knobs too, so IMO, yes, they do react very well.

I've been through SOOO many duncans, dimarzios, EMGs, Suhr Aldrich, etc., and these beat them all out for me.

If you have any other specific questions, feel free to PM me.

I dont mind the neck pup but the bridge...not a fan. I've changed the bridge out in every Tremonti guitar I own.

In one of my PRS Tremonti',s I have a Gibson 500T that sounds...passable. However I love the 500T's in my Les Pauls. Got a Motor City Torque in another Tremonti...sounds real good and believe or not an old Tone Zone in another Tremonti.

I'd have to go with the Motor City...but not by much over the Tone Zone, not by much at all. In fact the difference may be just that no 2 guitars sound alike. The TZ has always been very hit or miss with me but in this guitar...it works. Very happy.

Both the Torque and TZ have more low end and low mid while keeping that grind that I like...the Tremonti pup is a bit thin for my taste and lacks a little low end and lower mid...just not quite as aggresive as I like.

That being said I can see why Mark designed the bridge pup the way it is considering his base tone is a Dual Rect. I use Marshalls and just need that little more low end , lower mid beef so obviously the amp is gonna play a factor as well. If buying a Tremonti guitar I'd definitely give them a shot dependant on amp...I mean they're not bad pickups in any way at all. Was just giving a differing opinion.

^Very well made point...I also play Rectifiers, so the Tremonti pickups works very well for me.

Sounds killer pushing a Mark IV too

Absolutely man...with the amount of eq you can roll into Boogies I totally understand why Mark voiced the pup that way. With Marshalls you just don't have that wide of tonal range...always looking for that little more of low end without sacrificing the cut or signature Marshall mids.

I'm probably wrong but I almost hear kind of a flatter freq response with the Tremonti pups than say a stock higher output pickup...will say this, the harmonics are sweet, almost like the original Duncan JB's.

Hmmm...I have a Vox AC15, probably gonna get a Mark V in the near future...I'll keep this in mind. My friend has Motor City's in his Les Paul's and they sound pretty good...

I love them. Dont have a Tremonti guitar anymore, but I ordered his bridge pup for my custom 22 the other day cause I need something hotter. Played through Marshalls and always found them to be real beefy and harmonically rich.

Bumpity bump bump...still curious, just got a new PRS and considering a PUP change.

I heard they were basically 500Ts with less mids.
Not close imo. I have 2 Les Pauls loaded with 500T's and dropped a 500T in one of my Tremonti PRS guitars hoping to tonally get close...it's almost too over the top...that pup in the Tremonti guitar sounds nothing like the stock Tremonti pup.

IMO the Tremonti pup...and I still own 3 PRS Tremonti II's is closer to a vintage Duncan JB...just more subdued on the lower mids. Good harmonics though. Great pup just don't think it sounds anything like a 500T.

sounds more like a less middy duncan distortion
cleans up a bit better, though
nice raw and gritty midrange, not as dirty and ultra high output like the 500t
but still no near a BKP in clarity, which is essential for me

Bam, there it is. There's a reason I have them in every guitar I won except for one (P90 guitar).

Excellent pickups. Great in terms of clarity and punch, very difficult to get them to mud up. I even dig the coil-tapped tone on the bridge pickup.

The Tremonti treble is about as far from any JB I've ever played as you can get. Doesn't have that odd mid spike.

The original Duncan JB's didn't have that nasty mid spike they have now. I'm not sure when the change occured...others could speak on that but the JB of now...I guess at least the last decade is very different from the original JB's. The older ones...90's era were fantastic pickups. The last JB I tried...I was horrified and sadly the last of my older ones that were loaded in all my old ESP guitars were sold with the guitars...I wished I had known the difference at the time. I do hear some similarity in those old JB's compared to the Tremonti...maybe someone can chime in on the old JB's.

However everyone hears things differently and the funny thing is, pickups most of all IMO. They can certainly be a pain when searching.

Great pups, I have the bridge model in a McCarty and an Eagle, I actually preferred them to a Suhr Aldrich that I had in both at one time or another. Stay tight at high gain, good harmonic content, nice even spread, but nice detail in the mids IMO
They clean up reasonably well too, rolled off. I got plenty of bottom out of them through modded Marshalls

So it has high mids like the JB, but with no spike?
To me it just had that flavor...especially in regards to harmonics. Seemed pretty even across the mids in the Tremonti pups. Again, personally I just couldn't get that lower end, lower mid grind that I like with them but I could see why Mark designed them that way because his base tone starts with a Boogie. I kinda wish I had never commented on them because in general...pickups IMO are the single hardest thing to analyze as a player. We all like what we like. All hear things differently. And with pups "feel" things differently... but with pickups that's like magnified x100...just no right or wrong and sadly one of those things that you just gotta try. Which is a pain unto itself because of the time and process it takes to check them out.

I feel you man...I'm just wanting to get a PUP that I like the first time, that way I don't have to waste money and time replacing PUP's...I'm 15, so time and money are limited! haha

I've got an Anderson H2+ and a Dimarzio Air Norton in my Custom 24. The H2+ is absolutely perfect for my tastes. Not completely sold on the Air Norton. It sounds good, but a bit heavy on the mids. Seriously check out Anderson pickups if you haven't. They've got their own thing going on.
