Sorry, but I felt a little underwhelmed by it. It was fairly easy to play a few fast runs and such, but the action was too low to get a hold of the string for decent string bends, which in turn also caused some mild fret buzz (on a £1500 guitar, you would expect none). The guitar had a lot of mass to it, but sustain seemed to be non-existent. High note though the QC was very good and the guitar was stunning to look at, just a shame it wasn't inspiring to play.

I love my Custom 24. I'm not a huge fan of the stock pickups. They can be a bit lifeless imho. I swapped mine out for some Andersons. Now it's all, like,

Beautiful looking guitars but I've played a bunch of them and am yet to bond with one.....

seems like an easy fix, a good setup, can make the difference in teh world. Depending on where you played it at, it may have been screwed with. Its rare for me to find a guitar that is setup perfect in a store for me.

most guitars in a shop are are not set up very good, especially not set up the way YOU like it. you cannot judge a guitar this way. just wanted to agree with Audioholic

most people know this though

Same here! Infact i don't remember the last time i played a guitar in a store that was setup even half decently..

You tend to find that there's a lot of guys who work in stores, who don't have a clue about properly setting up a guitar, so they just take the guitars out of the box on arrival and put them straight on the shelf for sale.. without any tweaks on the setup. That's why you find so many guitars play like crap when you pick them off the wall in many stores

Recently played this '97 McCarty and would have walked out of the store with it (if I had $1899  ) Perfect setup, feel, and tone

Never bonded with the Custom 24's I've played.

Sounds like it needed a 10 minute setup. I've played too many LP's to count that had a shitty setup, and most fenders i play in stores are crap.

What I was thinking, it is tough finding a proper setup guitar in a music store to demo amps with.

Took me a long time to find a PRS I liked. I kept trying Custom 22 and 24's, older Standards, and nothing did it for me. Most of them felt stiff to me and the tone did nothing for me either. Last year I had a store order me in a goldtop Gibson LP Traditional specifically, and they had two others in stock. Got there, played them and enjoyed them, but then a goldtop PRS SC245 caught my attention. Well I'll tell ya it blew the LP away. I couldn't believe after playing probably shy of 100 PRS's that I finally found one that I bonded with. The looks, the feel, the tone, everything was killer! Long story short I stick to the Singlecuts and I'm a happy PRS player. Got a couple already, will add more soon!

I know what you're saying though. I felt let down every time I played one in the past. The right one's out there, just like anything!

Change 'proper setup' to 'proper setup for ME' and you're closer. I prefer a really flat neck and a low action - I play with a light touch. People either love or hate how I set up guitars - there's no middle ground. ;)

My favorite PRS is a Cu22 semi hollow I've had a few years... sounds great, is super light and plays great too. I'm not a huge fan of the Cu24s personally, but they are nice.

Well really...guitars are no different than anything we use...it either works or it doesn't. I can't tell you the number of Tylers for example that I've tried and and I just can't play them...regardless of how well the guitar is setup. I have 2 really great Les Pauls that I love but for every one I like, I pick 20 that feel like crap. And let's face it, Guitar Center really doesn't care how they're guitars are setup in stores so that's always a huge issue as well.

Another example...I've also got 2 really incredible PRS SC's that are just awesome...but I've owned a couple of Custom 24's that I never bonded with. They were great guitars but just not for me.

To me, it just take awhile to find that specific guitar that does it for you.

Most of them felt stiff to me

Yes! Exactly!....so it aint just me!

I also thought the Single Cut was great too, definitely the best feeling PRS's BUT a little lacking in the mojo department compared to the double cuts.

I know, hard to please.

My EBMM Axis kills it in the single cut space....for me

I never really bonded with the customs, The McCartys I LOVE, except for the bridge pups, which I change out. They have a thicker tone than the customs, a switching system I can easily live with, and a neck-carve that I like that has some meat to it, without being a baseball bat

I recently played a Les Paul Traditional and a PRS Singlecut through a Diezel VH4. The Les Paul was much nicer sounding.

Did the PRS have a trem?

Another example of how everything is different. I tried my best to like my EBMM Axis but I could just never bond with it...awesome guitar but thats why we have so many choices.

I man-love mine ... but it does need setup with weather change. I even like the PUs, the bridge PU sounds better if you turn it down a small hair when going from high to medium gain IMHO. The neck PU sounds great for medium gain but not high gain IMHO.
