Hey Guys just have a simple question about a Triple Rec for sale local. It's a 2007 looks really clean with the cover and FS.He's asking $850 for it.Is this a good deal and could anyone tell me about any issues with this year? Thanks in advance for any info

That's a reasonable price. Is that the non-Multiwatt version? That was the one that I just couldn't quite get happy with it's tone. Not sure what it was, but I was able to quickly get the 2-channel and the Multiwatt sounding good to me, FWIW.

The non-multiwatt three channel version of the dual/triple rectifiers sometimes have the foot switch “pop” when you use the footswitch where there is a loud pop noise through the speakers when switching channels. Won’t do it when you use the channel switch on the amp itself. A band mate had a triple and this would happen sometimes, I had a dual at a later date and it never happened, saw a band where the guitarist had the issue every time he changed channels via the foot switch

You kind of either like the tone or don’t - they sound better with a boost pedal out front.

With my 3-channel non-multiwatt dual recto, the pop when switching channels can be mostly alleviated by cycling through the channels with the footswitch when in standby after turning the amp on.

Also when I changed power tubes to a brand new set of the STR440’s, the popping was diminished a lot, not sure why. With the old tubes (I believe original, small-bottle STR420’s) it popped very loudly the first time I switched channels, then it was fine unless I was sat on the same channel for a long while before switching again.

I very much like channel 2, but I’m not a big fan of channel 3, I don’t use it much at all. The FX loop also sucks in my opinion.

Thanks for the info guys.I had a Dual Rec 2 channel rack mount in the 90's which was great but in the tone chase game I traded it for a Fireball.I'm going to be doing a Doom/stoner thing as a side gig with some guys.I happened upon this and thought the high wattage would be cool for this gig.I don't have any experience with any of the 3 channels but heard they can be kinda buzzy sounding.I guess the best thing is to go give it try then I'll have my answer.

Gotta admit, a recto would be far from my first choice for a doom/stoner band. They really lack the throaty mids that I tend to hear with that music. Big bass but more sizzle than throaty. I would go for a used Rockerverb or something in the Orange/Marshall style but not modern Marshall. My 80’s Laney pro tube (6 knob version) is great for that stuff. Also I bet a used Peavey VTM 120 could cop some good Stoner like tones and they’re super cheap used.

Never played a triple, but the MW dual I owned had what I would consider the most throaty low mids of any amp I've played.

Go for an older 2 channel or a Multiwatt. The other 3 channel rectifiers are the least desirable.

Keep in mind if it will need tubes cause the triple has A LOT of em!

I happen to be selling a super cool early Rev G Triple... Shameless plug.

Eq pedal in front will give you a lot of options.

You mean in loop?

Both really. Use the eq to boost it. It works great. Especially with rectos.

in front you’ll just get very subtle changes. In the loop you can make it a totally different amp. Love an EQ with a mid bump in a recto loop. Really brings the amp forward.

I realize that. I personally would use one in the loop. But I was just saying that you can use one out front as a boost, as that is what sylmm may have meant.

But yeah I do agree that I would throw one in the loop before out front.

I would have said loop only but after finding out how different the amp dime used sounded with an eq in front I changed my mind. If your only getting a small change from it your not boosting frequencies enough haha. He used eq’s I’m the loop too.

Boosting the shit out of some mids in front of a recto sounds cool to me. It saturates the mids more then you scoop em back out with the loop eq.
