You guys ever remember seeing a few years back a guy who was making a movie called Cracking the Code? Well, that was Troy Grady. He now has a Youtube channel and his personal website totally rules also. A LOT of great info, lessons, interesting articles, etc. Plus, Troy shreds on guitar, the guy is really good! There is a cool video on him building a Mustang. He rips on the Mustang he has, I have never seen anyone play one like that.

his website:

http://troygrady.com/

youtube channel:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4xYcl ... uMV76lb_vQ

check this guy and his videos, articles, lessons, stories, and especially the first couple seasons of Cracking the Code, really fascinating stuff. His lessons are cool because he has a cam on the neck, and when he shows the slow motion picking view, it really makes a difference.

This guy truly has cracked the code to high speed picking. His level of attention to detail in figuring this all out and presenting it in an entertaining manner is killer!

It's funny, I've had lessons from several very good players, but not one of them ever tried to show me HOW they could pick so fast and why it worked. This is a totally different kind of "lesson"...

I watch his channel almost nightly while feeding my son (he's 4mos). I figure that he'll come by it honestly as he gets older. My wife is probably sick of watching Troy. The lessons are great and my guess is that he is a visual/programmer by day, given the amount of cartoons.

Someone told me he is an ivy league guy, super smart on top of being a monster player. Look what he has done on his site and youtube channel. He has invested a LOT of time doing this. He also got to sit down with a lot of top players and watch them play and talk with them about their technique, super cool, I would love to do that!!!

Just when you thought to 80's were really over, here comes Troy Grady and his flying fingers... :jerkit:

What creeped me out, was the clip where he's standing in what was or is his bedroom... Hair metal band posters galore, and a greying 40 something guy wearing a Members Only jacket, rocking-out on 80's speed-licks. :scared:

it creeped you out? why?

Yeah those clips were supposed to be a flashback to when he was a kid. I think the site is great. He's obviously a guy like much of us who came of age in the 80's but also started a website where he geekishly studies every aspect of that playing. Hats off for the effort!

The only thing creepier than an old dude still digging the music he grew up on is an old dude, trying too hard to be hip and stay current, and hoping that no one who actually is hip and current realizes how old he is.

^^^

Chris...don't even know why you have to explain that to them...they just browsed the vid and didn't watch fully if that was their perception. I just watched episodes 1-8 and it was well made, and very entertaining.

Current? Err... Metal music died 25 years ago. Did you not get the memo?

I'm old enough to have studied those guys to the bone, all of their instructional vids and all of that stuff...not one of them talks about what Troy is breaking down. Signed up for some of his "Masters in Mechanics" seminars, and you get the super-slow motion footage of him demonstrating these concepts, and it becomes apparent what is really going on.

This may be what I am missing then.

A while back I watched almost the entire first season. While I agree this was very entertaining and you can tell he knows his stuff. I just could not find the lesson in these videos.

I feel that I learned nothing and would have been disappointed buying this and not learning a damn thing besides a history lesson.

Am I watching these wrong? Or do I need to do the seminars to learn how he is doing certain runs?

Season 1 was the buildup...background stuff, his take on the times, etc....Season 2 is the instructional stuff. If I'm not mistaken, Episode 1 of Season 2 ("Get Down For the Upstroke") is available for free his YouTube channel. This is where he starts to break down Yngwie's technique. There are also a multitude of videos on his YouTube channel from the first "Talking The Code" live webinar. (including the whole thing in one hour and half shot) ..pretty much a recap of Episode 1, Q&A from participants, a brief look at the concepts as it applies to other player's techniques (who use different variation of what Yngwie uses) etc.
The "Masters in Mechanics" seminars are detailed looks at the concepts in the "Cracking The Code" series, each one corresponding to an episode in the series...online webcam chat type of a thing with Q&A, and packs of tab, audio, and video. They are not necessary, just an add-on.
