So I have had a 51503 stealth not super impressive through a Mesa cab. The regular 51503 sounds amazing through its own cab in person. Have not heard the Splawn Nitro but the clips I've heard sound bad ass what do you guys think?

i own both right now. EVH stealth hand down unless you want crazy amounts of bass that go into bass player's territory IMO... nitro is a cool amp but IMO just too much bass tha cannot be dialed out without sounding thin.

I had a Splawn StreetRod and went to the EVH Stealth. I really like the Stealth more. The EQ on the Splawn is strange, especially the treble.

I own a 5153 100 watter and a Splawn Quick Rod. The 5153 is collecting dust at the moment. IMHO, the Splawn is just a more musical sounding amp.

Get the Quick Rod instead of the Nitro. That "strange frequency" is called midrange and it's what what makes a guitar cut through a mix. It's not strange at all, unless your used to mid scooped tones in a bedroom.

I had 2 QR's and they don't compare to the EVH. EVH is WAAAAAAYYY better.

I like the EVH amps - though haven't played the Stealth version. But they have way too much gain even at 9:00 and the clarity just isn't there compared to a Splawn. I've had an el34 Nitro and a KT88 Nitro and an el34 QR and a KT88 QR (still own). I definitely prefer the KT-88s in the Splawn. Super tight and super clear. I'd recommend a new QR with KT-88s and get the new mid-shift switch on it. Also the standard/B+ switch. I think that'd give you something close to a Nitro with the mid-cut engaged and more QR without. Splawns are capable of putting out a lot of low-end, but all you need to do is turn the bass knob left. lol

Which is better in terms of build quality and what pickups go will with these heads I'm a Emg user. I've also heard the quick rod is harder to dial in a little harsher then the Nitro from a older post of mine. Also I prefer the 5150 iii 100 watt not the stealth I thought the stealth was too spongy or synthetic sounding through a Mesa cab. I was thinking of putting either of these heads on a new genz benz gflex or my 6505 cab.

Splawns are not hard to dial in at all. I set everything at noon and rip. I've been playing mine for years and still love it everytime I fire it up. I don't have any beef with the evh amps, I just have no need for that much gain. The QuickRod has everything I like and need to gig with. Great build quality as well.

Yep dead simple to dial in. I only tweak my presence and bass if I change cabs or guitars. Pretty much set and forget. Splawns have a very clear and well defined distortion. It's never buzzy. Never played a EVH and I'm sure they are fine amps but I have heard clips where they can sound like a can of bees.

Spawn build quality is fantastic. Small operation vs. mass produced. I am sure the EVH quality is quite good. The Quick Rod is about as easy to dial in as you can get. I am consistently impressed by my Quick Rod and have had it for over 3 years now. I would take it or a KT88 Nitro over the EVH any day of the week. I just do not like the 5150III

THIS

get a mesa traditional cab, ditch the oversize cab, and keep your revision f using the orange channel. problem solved.

Ugggghhhhh... I'm gonna have to disagree with that.

And my QR holds up just fine next to just about anything, including the Friedman Smallbox currently sitting next to it and the BE100 that was sitting next to it.

How much does a quick rod go for?
I see them used from about $1100. Make sure you get a 2012 or newer if you use a clean channel.

I actually love the old clean channel. I like that plexi semi dirty tone though, not for everyone

I get where you are coming from hot rodded marshall and the slo lives inside any dual if you can find it including the Rev F. But the Rev F is just too much metal for me plus soso clean and that amp sounds best when the orange us cloned to modern which eliminates the clean channel anyway. Plus I'm trying to move in from mesa.

This 1 million times

The Splawn QuickRod imo, is one of the best amps out there. I had a 5153 and it was good, not that good though.

The Splawn is simply a kick ass amp
May very well be my next one.

EVH if you need way too much saturation to cover shitty playing. Spalwn if you like dryer aggressive Marshall tones, but it won't cover sloppy playing like the EVH.
