Lol you guys aren't making this any easier
I'm in Cuyahoga Falls just north of Akron. Like Stompboxfreak said, I have both amps and you're more than welcome to come over and check them out

That would be awesome I'll send you a message tomorrow

Splawns are not hard to dial in at all. I set everything at noon and rip. I've been playing mine for years and still love it everytime I fire it up. I don't have any beef with the evh amps, I just have no need for that much gain. The QuickRod has everything I like and need to gig with. Great build quality as well.

Yep dead simple to dial in. I only tweak my presence and bass if I change cabs or guitars. Pretty much set and forget. Splawns have a very clear and well defined distortion. It's never buzzy. Never played a EVH and I'm sure they are fine amps but I have heard clips where they can sound like a can of bees.

Spawn build quality is fantastic. Small operation vs. mass produced. I am sure the EVH quality is quite good. The Quick Rod is about as easy to dial in as you can get. I am consistently impressed by my Quick Rod and have had it for over 3 years now. I would take it or a KT88 Nitro over the EVH any day of the week. I just do not like the 5150III
I really dug the 5153 I just like the Quick Rod better. Much more articulate and hella tight.

get a mesa traditional cab, ditch the oversize cab, and keep your revision f using the orange channel. problem solved.
I would take a traditional cab over the oversized cab any day. But neither with a Splawn. I own a Rectoverb Single Rec and a Traditional cab and a Quick Rod with a Splawn 212 cab with Small Blocks.

My QR does not sound that great through the V30 Traditional cab but the Mesa sounds killer through either.

The Splawns really excel with Scott's speakers - the Small Blocks and Big Blocks. The Small Blocks are 55w versions of a Greenback and the Big Blocks are based on the G12H30s.

I personally am not an EMG guy - I like hot passives instead. KSE recorded one of their albums using a Splawn Nitro (along with layers of other amps) and Adam and Joel both use EMGs and Tubescreamers. So there is alway that.

I think a new Splawn QR with all the options loaded would be beastly - otherwise you can find them in the $1100 - $1300 range as mentioned.

splawn...as many have said more musical sounding amp. Save your money though and buy a wizard mcII.

Had the EVH 5153 50w. Loved it... Always wanted a Splawn, got the Pro Stock. It was really a night and day difference. The 5153 is a GREAT amp, especially at the price point. But, the Splawn is more organic, musical (as someone else said) and just more balls. 5153 is more compressed, easier to play with tons of gain. Splawn also has tons of gain, slightly less compressed.

We did a live show recording with the EVH in 2013 and then in 2015 with the Splawn. Pretty much the same mix, and the 5153, in my humble opinion, sounded like a lesser amp in the FOH mix. The Splawn just dominated while the 5153 sounded somewhat thin in comparison.

Many will disagree with me, but that was my experience. Can't go wrong with either amp, really depends on your goals and what your ears like. Ultimately, the amp should inspire you. If it doesn't, find the time and coin to get something that does.

If I had money for that I'd buy tbr kemper lol

I'm really interested in buying one of these two amps. Check out the demo of the Splawn QR. Sound pretty good to me.

Totally agree! I'm not generally a fan of slant cabs at all. But my QR sounds best through the matching slant cab with Small Block speakers. It's not has big or rich sounding if I pump it through my V30-loaded 4x12 straight cab. I haven't owned a slant cab in years other than the Splawn, and have no intention of owning another. But that cab works with the QR because of those Small Block speakers IMO.

Yep. He sold that amp to me... It's right over there in my avatar. He left some MoJo in it for me. He's good like that.

Splawn QR hands down! And you will not regret it. Had both (QR & Stealth) and kept the better of the two. It was really no contest IMO.

And like mentioned earlier it loves the Splawn smallblocks.
It's pretty much my overall go to rig and gets 85% of my play time.

*sorry for the sideways pic

Forgot to mention that Splawns are built like tanks. I bought mine unseen and unplayed and when I got it, one transformer was at a 35degree angle and the other at about 45degrees. Took it to my amp tech who checked the tubes all the soldering and once we fired it up, both he and I were blown away at how freakin' GOOD it sounded. Neither one of us could believe it.

Now i wouldn't recommend dropping one, but I can get VH Fair Warning tones all day long in 3rd gear...now if I could only play like Mr. EVH...
