Ok, so the 1990 reissue TS-9 that has been apart of my rig for almost twenty years now has finally died on me. :( It and a good compressor have been my main solo gain boosts for over a decade now. I've thought about replacing it with another TS-9 or perhaps a TS-808, but I just thought I'd see what else was out there. I don't need a super high gain pedal, just something with TS levels of gain and good headroom for kicking it up to "11" for soloing. So let's hear what you've got for recomendations...

Thanks!

Joel

Oh man, this is a ride you may not want to get on....pedal hunting. If your TS-9 worked well for you, just get another. It will save you alot of knob diddling and cash piddling in the long run.

A Fulldrive 2 is kind of an idealized TS with the addition of a boost feature. I currently have a TS-9 and in all honestly probably should have gotten another FD. For not much more money, I think it just plain sounds better.

... or be prepared for 10000 pages of a laundry list of pedals that are in existence. Gawd, there are soooooo many pedals out there it's not even worth venturing down the road. As soon as you try one, someone else will say, "hey, _______ sounds so much better than _____, you should try it." And then you'll try it, maybe dig it, then someone else will say, "hey, my ________ kicks the shit out of that _______ and you'll try it. Repeat. Ad nauseum.

Just check out TGP, it's like the endless search for something that doesn't exist.

Stick with your TS9 and play yer geetar.

I think you just described every piece of gear discussed on every forum though...

if you must-

i went down the tube screamer road for a long while....the best i found for my ears was the maxon OD-820...it's got the internal voltage doubler feature which really creates that headroomy vibe you describe.

barber direct drive was also nice, 100 less than maxon, and a little tighter if you want that response.

also did the ts-9 from analogmike which was like a clearer, less boxy ts-9.

ts-7 is also great and cheap.

oh yeah, the maxon 808 is the pedal thump had to turn his marshall into the jake e lee machine, and should have never left because that was his tone of tones.

Keeley SD-1. My must have pedal anytime I use a Marshall. I tried Mike's(ratter) Fulldrive and yeah that pedal is pretty damn nice actually!

True, but it's especially worse in regards to pedals. I mean people get PISSED and will blow a gasket if you say you prefer a cheapy BOSS SD1 to a grossly overpriced TS knockoff thats been hand-painted and re-released 10 times in limited supply (all the while to maintain their "uber cool and booteek image).

I still say go with works best, a TS9. Ya can't beat em!

On of the best TS pedals is the MJM Blues Devil
Look it up on TGP. It gets lots of love (and I love mine)

I second this.

I'm a huge fan of the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive for the main reason that you can dial your original signal back in. I have a normal one and a Keeley modded which has a little more gain and low end.

Overdrive pedals are not like amps, with an amp there are maybe 10 good options, with overdrive pedals there are like 50 options to check out. It can be very confusing.

If you like a Tubescreamer, check out the Maxon OD-808 or OD-9. I own both, the OD-808 is smoother, the OD-9 has more low end. Here's a few more to consider:

BBE Green Sceamer
MI audio Blues Pro
MJM blues Devil
Ibanez TS-808 Reissue

A TS-7 for $40 set to TS-9 mode is about 99% the same as the real thing then you would have cash left over to try other pedals and still have your old solo boost tone back.

im actually using a keeley modded ts9dx at the moment and it just sings. for awhile i would just take that and a delay pedal to gigs and i was set.

HBE Power Screamer is a very multifaceted option for a TS type pedal. Joel Weaver makes em and his customer support is excellent.
