If a company was going to design a new tube power amp for preamps, should the unit be stereo or mono and what features would you like to see?

Stereo, without a doubt stereo.

1/2 power
pres and res controls for each channel
EL34s or 6L6s
Proper cooling
Vintage and modern setting.

For the WOW factor some old school analog UV meters would rock hard

you go scotty! yep-stereo fo sho. i also like what randall is doing with theirs.

stereo.
2x6550 per side stock, but must be able to accept EL34's and 6L6's too.
four rack spaces
Satiny, Silvery chassis
LEDs around plexiglass front panel, through which, tubes must be visible.
Biggest transformers available

Basically, I would want a flashy looking, silver VHT 2150 copy that could take EL34's and 6L6's.

How about external bias test points and pot.

OOOH, good one. I forgot that. DEFINITELY need this.

Well, you know, if there's resources left after implementing the satiny chassis. :D

Silver Satiny chassis? Seriously? That idea came BEFORE the transformers?!?

Oh Gene......

Stereo, but you can run the amp with the one side with power tubes pulled and completely off for those of us who want to run mono. If that is not possible have it so you don't need a load in both amps if the knob is turned down.

I like the half power idea. I personally don't need 100Watts per side or even 50Watts per side.

This, but instead of EL34/6L6s, make it KT88. And obviously make it HOT PINK! :gay: :rawk:

Full/Half power
the ability to use/choose multiple tubes for the o/p section
Stereo but with bridged mono feature or the ability to use only one channel without popping a tube and the unused channel.
Fail safe for those knucklehead moment that you might turn the poweramp on without a speaker load :D
Independant Presence controls for both chanels
Independent graphic EQ for Each Channel...If set to flat Its flat.
Footswitchable EQ....on/off for more tone shaping.

When it comes to Tube Poweramps most companies overlook the Bridged mono feature. It's a fact that not everyone will like to lug multiple cabs to a gig for a stereo rig and/or have to re-wire there mono 2x12 - 4x12 in order to use the poweramp!!

All the best!!

+1

But I could do without the VU meters, I'd rather have digital readout that I could see from a few feet or more away. Is there anyway to build in an attenuator, or to control the power tube saturation at different levels, e.g., low volume + full power distortion to high volume + hi fi clean and everything in between?

What about 3 poweramp sections to make a WDW rig possible with only 1 poweramp ?

Giga.
