Think I need to swap out the tubes in the 5150.
Still has the stock ones in it.
Mine is the Block letter amp.
They are 6L6GC Peavey tubes.
Will any 6L6gc tubes be fine?

Any info/stories is greatly appreciated!

Ask your supplier for tubes that will work with the 5150s fixed bias. I like JJs alot so far with this amp. Never tried SEDs in this amp but Ive loved them in every other amp ive owned. So Id assume they awesome in 5150s as well. But theyre $$.

Dam boy, from VH4 to 5150? You on food stamps too?

I'd lend you an amp but I'm afraid you'd sell it.

I tried a bunch of different power tubes in my 5150 a few months ago (JJ's, SED, Sovtek WXT+, TAD's, Ruby's...).

I liked the Sovtek WXT+ and the Ruby best but again, that is just my opinion. I found the JJ to be kinda bland but fine. The short bottle TAD was loose and lacked definition. SED sounded good but too stiff. The Sovtek had the best snarl and low end for my taste. The Ruby was cool too but not as defined.

Those Peavey labeled tubes are probably USA made Sylvania's, those tubes are the reason for the block letter lore because supplies ran out around the same time the logo on the amp changed. If they are still healthy keep em. Laura's suggestions should fit the bill just fine if you need new ones. If you can post some pics of the tubes I'll let you know for sure if they are the Sylvanias. I retubed a friend's european market 5150 with sovtek 6l6wxt+ tubes at his request sometime ago and it sounded fantastic. There was something special about that amp.

I have an RFT 12ax7 in V1 and it transformed the amp. Better cleans and way better gain!

If you can swing it I wouldn't hesitate.

On the power side I have Ruby's. They sound good and are consistent.
