^^That is a good pedal.. like an sd1 with more bottom end

I have both. The Wylde OD is based on the SD-1, since that's what Zakk used, but doesn't suck the bass, and much more aggressive in character. It has a really "pissed off" character.

It's just as you describe, raunch, clank, and rich in harmonics. Where in Florida are you??

I like the gtod from mxr. You can switch between the wylde od or the gt. There is an internal switch to go back and forth. My personal go to is the maxon od808 and the keeley red dirt.

I have the GT-OD as well. Had it a couple years, and oddly enough, I never messed with switch inside! The regular mode sounds like a better TS9. I prefer it to Tubescreamers, if I want THAT kind of boost.

Look into an Abominable Hellmouth pedal. It has the best of both worlds with a TS mode and an 808 mode.

I was looking at those this week online, the full size one..I didn't see any youtube demos I thought sounded any good for higher gain so I crossed it off my list, now from a Rig Talk member I may have to re-visit them.saw one for $99,full sized.

I already have 2 Wylde ODs. One's 10 years old, and the other is new in the box, never used!

John Petrucci has one on his board he keeps on most all the time. There was even a small batch that JP signed. Really good TS pedal and most importantly it works great with a high gain amp. I've used it with my JP2C, Diezel VH4, and Triple Recto. Sounded great with all of them. I'm using the full sized pedal too.

Thanks for all the replies... I've always used a Boss SD 1 with my 2203X and wanted to try out a tube screamer (never tried one before) and had some options to consider. I basically like a classic rock tone with a little more gain (slash). I want raunch and clank, I don't want smooth, so I prefer brighter tones with harmonics

Try an MXR Zakk Wylde OD. No shit... It's the only pedal I've had for 10+ years, (next to my 10-Band EQ). It simply kills in front of Marshalls.

These are very under rated pedals. Like of bite, edge, mean grind and plenty bright if desired. They do work best with a Marshall, or Marshall-inspired amp. Really good pedal.

Dammit,I knew I should have got the $99 bucker!! Well I don't mind paying the full price for excellent proven results, and from your list of amps used sounds like a winner..I want to use on my EVH 5150-3 50 watt head, even though it really doesn't need anything extra..I went for a bargain pedal after several ok reviews,a BBE G Screamer, the Gus G sig pedal,it should arrive hopefully by Saturday or early next week.

I had great results with a TC Spark Boost, (full size), with the EVH. Added a nice roundness to the red channel without adding unwanted compression, and adds a little kick to the blue.

If you want to try the Wylde OD with your 2203, send me your address. We're both in Florida, I'll let you test drive it for awhile, I'm not using it.

This pedal was later re-"labeled" the Berzerker Overdrive...

Yep, I have both versions. Might sound crazy, but the older white one has more sizzle. I think they mucked with the circuit when they changed it to the "Berzerker".

Let me know how you like it! Call me an MXR fanboy, but the Custom Badass OD is another one that flies under the radar.

Run the level full blast, tone a hair under 1:00 o'clock, and the gain at about 8:00 o'clock. Just a wee bit of gain. Your 2203 will go into beast mode!

Not at all… LOL.. I've had a few TS pedals plus the 805 and for some reason this stays in front of my amp.

Has anyone tried the sparkle drive and what are your thoughts on it?

The CBOD is a GT-OD with the 100hz control and bump switch added. The GT-OD is one resistor different from the ZW44, and the ZW44 is a tweaked Boss SD-1, lol   I consider them all to be in the same "family", and they all have similarities.

This thread has pushed me to make an impending deal on a used ZW44 OD this coming weekend. Lol!
