I thought the LPS's had issues with CF's as well? I have a TON of NOS tubes, but I hate to use them Maybe I will just crack some out and test.

The LPS does have issues in the CF position, so i just threw a Chinese 8th gen in V2, but kept LPS's in V1 and V3. Rocks!!!

Try either Chinese 8th or 9th gen in V2.. whihever you have lying around. I doubt it makes any difference as i heard the C9 and C8 sound very similar if not the same.

If the amp is plenty gainy as it is, that combo just seems to balance it out and make it more toneful.. whereas i found the C9 in all positions sorta sounded like it was trying to push the gain levels higher and sacrificed some of the tone. That said, these findings are purely in this modded 2204 rebuild, and i have found C9's to sound incredible in my Camerons i had before!

Well both of my Camerons have a ton of gain...but I love the added gain of the C9's, but hate some of the treble. Believe it or not I thought the C9's sounded flat in the Jose. Not a bad flat, just an average tone. Once I popped in a RFT i V1 the amps really had "tone". Then with the TS's it has a certain gain to it that is very pleasing. Keep in mind that all of my C9's are either new or newer, so I am not hearing any reall difference between a "new" or "worn" tube.

I feel exactly the same way about the C9.. the added gain is awesome, but that added treble can end up sounding a bit harsh or grating on the ears in some amps. The LPS still added some gain, but no added treble. Smooth but with the right amount of bite in the upper mids!!

I havent ever tried an RFT.. how would you compare the tone/gain/feel of the RFT against the C9? Looks like a have a list of tubes to try soon
