Is there a difference using my Rockcrusher line out into my daw vs using two notes cab or live with Wall of Sound software? It sounds like crap. Tiny, messy tried eq in two notes everything sounds terrible. Have good amps, JCM, Mesa, Bogner etc. Is the two notes line out sound better? Very frustrated with this.

If you have the normal rock crusher it doesn't have a speaker sim on the line out so you would need to run that line out into the wos plugin or some other speaker sim.

Yes I know that, I've watched lots of great vids of the WOS plugin and cant even get close to any of those sounds. I'm not inexperienced, can get good sounds with a mic have good equipment mic pre etc. Does the Two Notes have a better line out sound. The Rivera is terrible sounding. All my levels are good etc. Just can't make it sound good. What am I missing?

Cant find any vids on before the plugin to hear raw guitar sounds. My gtr out of the Rivera is bad

I didn't have much luck with Wall of Sound either, I tried a Suhr Line out box and even a real speaker cab as a load and wasn't happy with any of the speaker simulators in W.O.S. :(

I don't have any experience with the Rock Crusher, but I've read before that the line out leaves a bit to be desired.

I struggled a bit with WOS at first myself, but I've really been digging it now. The key is really finding the right mic and cab combo for each amp. Anyway, a good basic starting point for me on one of the V30 cabs like the RactoFire, Fried30, or XTC is with the SM57 at Distance - 1, Axis - 3, and Overload - 10. With a Greenback cab like the BoGreen, Brownback, or Fastback25 I start with the SM57 at Distance - 1, Axis - 2, and Overload - 6. I quite often use the hi-pass filter, and when I do it's normally anywhere from 60-85hz. From there I dial in my amp.

What line out are you using? Two Notes Cab or something else?

I'm using one either from the amp, if it has one, or my Fryette Power Station.

I've tried JCM800 into the Rivera and Bogner 101B line out into my Daw. The 101B was better but still sucked

Use a dedicated DI box between the Rockcrusher and the amp, which can take the loud signal. I also find the Rockcrusher changes the line out sound, depending on its level set on the unit. Try a DI out level betwenn 12:00 and 2 o'clock. When I crank the level past that it gets dark and muddy.
I just got myself a Palmer Pan 02, which can handle loudspeaker levels, so I'm using that now.

If you have mics and the equipment, I would suggest spending some time with creating impulses yourself. You can use Two Notes BlendIR, which is free and quite easy to use. You might get happier with IRs of your own cabs and room etc.

You mentioned Mesa, if you have a Mark try the Slave DI out with WOS.

I have read that this was a complaint among rockcrusher users.... the line out did affect the tone. You are better off using a Suhr line out box between amp and rockcrusher. This way you can load down the amp or crank it but the line out will not be affected by the attenuator. It will be what is straight off your amp. Take that into WOS and rock it.

That said, I bought the suhr line out for impulse recording but in the end, it is going to be tracked but most likely not used as i kept going back to the raw SM57 or cascade fathead when I A/B'd the sound so maybe you just like the mic better. There is a fullness or fiziness sometimes with cab impulses that some people can hear. Maybe you are one of them.

Yeah the stock WOS impulse selection is weak and I also thought it blew. I got the Ownhammer impulses and they were much much better. Go redwirez and use their free greenback cab if you want it on the cheap. Those are still among my favourite and they hang easily with ownhammer. BUT end of the day, I like a rel mic better than all.

The line out from the RC sounds good for a clean sound only, one you add gain from the amp sounds like a bad distortion box straight into your Daw. The attenuation part is real good, I didn't like the clips of the recording version with sliding eq.

No need to shell out $200 just to get a line out for the amp IMO, but to each their own.
I found Ownhammer IRs were too low-midrangey, do you guys use EQ a lot with your IRs?
I guess for best results with IRs you have to forget your usual settings, and monitor the sound with IR and then tweak from there.

I think the best sound would likely be making your own impulses of your own gear... BlendIR two notes function does this but i was a bit unclear as to the right way to do this and my impulses were hollow sounding almost like i was standing outside the door. Wish they would do a tutorial on this feature. The diagram to me is not clear.

As for Ownhammer, I found them a tad smooth at times.
