Hi Forum! Nice to meet all of you!
I have a Herbert Mk1. Does someone of you have any experience with Two Notes Captor X in combination with a Herbert Mk1? Did you ever experience any issues also long term? Of course I'm not planning to crank it up but it would be great if you could share your experience. I'm also somewhat interested in hearing about other Load Boxes but TN Captor X is my preferred.

Thanks a lot for sharing.

The Captor isn’t a truly reactive load. It has a U-shaped resistance vs. frequency curve, meaning it shows a large bump in resistance at both low and high frequencies. In contrast, a truly reactive load—and real guitar cabs—have a narrow resonant peak in the lows and a bump in the highs.

That resistance bump in the lows isn’t ideal for your output transformer. To quote John Suhr: that bump in lows is like rats slowly eating your output transformer.

I’m not sure whether the Captor X behaves differently.

I’ve been using a Suhr Load Box for 8 years now with zero issues. I did an A/B comparison against a Diezel FL cab, and the load feels and sounds the same.

Even though the Herbert is rated at 180 watts and the Suhr Reactive Load is 100 watts, it’s not a problem—as long as you keep the Herbert’s volume within reason, like the kind of volume you'd use when playing with a real drum kit and bass. im my case it's anywhere between 8-10 o'clock on a master.
